Dr. Jawaun Michael Lewis, DO

I feel very comfortable opening up to him. He has helped me in many ways, he makes hisself available whenever he can. He truly cares. I’m blessed to have found a doctor like this.

You'd think I would have gotten a clue to what kind of doctor he was after my first session (or perhaps even earlier, when his unprofessional staff told me I wasn't chosen as a patient prior to the holiday break, then checked again and discovered I was, lucky me). I waited an hour to see the great man, only for him to order expensive psych testing (I guess he's unqualified to make diagnoses himself) and rush off to meet with a couple of drug reps. He wrote but forgot to give me several prescriptions, which I found out only after I called his office and they discovered them in the trash. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, though, so I went back, only to wait another hour each time. He agreed to put me on an older tricylic antidepressant during our second session, but he didn't bother checking to see whether it interacted with any of my current meds. It did, badly. I really wanted to give the TCA a chance to work, so I made a very stupid mistake after I first started… experiencing severe, unpleasant and potentially dangerous side effects; instead of calling him, I checked online to see what the problem might be (given that my psychiatrist seemed incapable of doing so) and adjusted the dosages myself. This was a mistake and I admitted as much in our follow-up visit, but apparently Dr. Lewis was, as usual, too busy checking his phone to hear me. He made me promise to call him if I had more side effects. That's what I'm here for, he said. After a few weeks, when it became clear that the side effects were not going to subside and put me at serious risk for heat stroke, I gave up on the TCA and called him. Twice. One of the very rude, unprofessional gatekeepers he employs could not seem to fathom the problem, but left him a note anyway and said she'd call me back. Two days later, I called, only for her to read back to me the note Dr. Lewis had left on my file: "Not meds" and curtly instructed me to to go to the ER. Uh, not meds? Did he even look at my chart? Probably not, since I had to tell the dimwit on the phone twice which meds I was taking, and explain repeatedly why combining them was really not a good idea. This is something I expect a doctor to know, but apparently Dr. Lewis -- after he was paged the second time because I was in tears from frustration and pain, insisting to the gatekeepers that the doctor had told me to call if I was having trouble -- could not be bothered to check. Instead, he told me to stop the meds (which one? at the same time?) and informed me that if I was "unhappy with his services, he'd be glad to refer me elsewhere." I was floored. I hadn't planned on firing him; I was sick and trying to do as he instructed. Since he put it so nicely and showed so much concern for my well-being, I said I'd be glad to get that referral, which I have no intention of taking. If you're looking for basic med management and don't mind being condescended to and ignored, by all means, consider Dr. Lewis. If you're expecting a professional who's on time and in his office when you call, look elsewhere. Given the severity of the side effects I experienced and his utter disregard for my welfare, I'm seriously considering filing a complaint with the state medical board.

Two of my children have been seeing Dr. Lewis since last year. He is very compassionate and automatically put us all at ease. He is genuinely concerned about their well being and also about keeping down the cost of their medical care. He actually listens to us which unfortunately is a rare trait in many doctors these days.

Today was my first visit with Dr. Lewis. After struggling with problems for years and pretty much giving up on ever finding someone who could help me with my problems, I decided to give Dr. Lewis a try.His knowledge, and compassion exceeded any physician I've ever seen prior to him. I think he's absolutely fantastic! He was extremely easy to talk to and was very polite and well rounded. His bedside manner was OUTSTANDING! Not only was he very compassionate, he knew what he was talking about and his diagnosis was right on. He's also only 36 which in my opinion means he's going to be much more likely to stay up to date on the latest studies and medical experience as opposed to an older physician who may have seen "it all" but prescribes the same medications for everything regardless of your condition. I'm a pharmacist and I know what makes someone a good healthcare provider. Dr. Lewis is a GREAT physician!

I was referred to Dr. Lewis from a co-worker. He doesn't take long during appointments, very professional, & ensures his patients are well informed.

Dr Lewis is a great doctor , he takes time to listen to what you have to say. He has been my sons doctor for a couple of years and has significantly improved his quality of life. When I started to have the same symptoms as my son there was no question what doctor I wanted to see. Dr Lewis is friendly ,caring and an absolute professional. I Would refer him to anyone.

He listened very patiently and gave a thorough diagnosis. He took time to consider the right treatment plan.

Dr. Lewis is an awesome doctor and I never wait more than 10 minutes to get in to see him. He diagnosed me with a problem I've had for years when other doctors hadn't picked up on it and is always very helpful about getting you where you need to be. Best doctor I've ever had.
