Dr. Jaxon Hall Powers

I was in a bind. I had a foreign object in my eye and my general ophthalmologist couldn't see me so suggested I call the office of the specialist ophthalmologist that I see sometimes. The office was able to give me an appointment that day with one of their optometrists. Dr. Powers was very nice and seemed very smart and competent. He removed the foreign body and sent a prescription for a medicated eye ointment to my pharmacy because he didn't want the corneal abrasion to get infected. That makes good sense, especially seeing that I'm severely immunocompromised. He wanted me to apply the medicated ointment 4 times a day. I arrived at the pharmacy to find out it had a $100 copay. That was not doable for me so I canceled that prescription and called the doctor's office to ask him to prescribe something either generic or on the preferred list with my insurance. I called his office at noon of the day of the appointment and left the message on his voicemail. I hadn't heard anything from the… pharmacy nor the doctor's office by almost 4:00 so I called again, hoping to catch him before he left for the day. The person who took the message said she would mark it high priority. I did not hear from him nor the pharmacy the rest of that day. Not good at all. The next morning I called an hour after they opened and left a message with the receptionist again. I didn't hear anything by 1:00 so called again. The receptionist apologized for my not hearing from them and she said she would send his team a message marked high priority. It's now the end of their day again, and still not a word. I've resorted to using an expired tube of an opthalmic antiobiotic that my general opthalmologist had me use 2 years ago. Not ideal. I don't know what Dr. Powers' problem is, but if he is having a problem and can't simply call in a new prescription, someone else on his team should be covering for him. It's a huge practice! Seeing that it's the day after the appointment ended and still no call or new prescription, I'm taking my grievance to this platform to warn people to steer clear. If you have a straightforward case, you'll be fine, but if anything is not typical, don't plan to get the help you need. This is extremely disappointing and potentially could be putting the health of my eye at risk. With that said about this one optometrist, the ophthalmologists and techs I have seen previously at this office have been excellent.
