He is impossible to get a hold of. His office staff could not understand why I got mad after I called 3 TIMES to ask a question. Closed the infusion center. Not referring patient anywhere only advising them to call their insurance companies.

THIS is MY PERSONAL MEDICAL Experience involving Dr. J. MAMEL! A "HORROR STORY" of ALLEGED BETRAYAL and ABANDONMENT!!!! I was a Patient of Dr. Jay Mamel about 3 years ago. I was admitted to have surgery to remove Bile Stones that were lodged in the Common Bile Duct. While going through Registration at Tampa General Hospital (2 hours before Surgery) I was presented with a Consent Form stating that Tampa General Hospital was a "Teaching Hospital" and worked in conjunction with the University Medical Colleges and Participating Physicians to facilitate Interns and Residents in Practicing Operational and Various Procedures on the patients in its Hospital. I did not want to sign this form; but was told to sign it and discuss my Concerns with my Admitting Doctor--DR. MAMEL. Right before the Operation, Dr Mamel entered the Room--and with my sister as a Witness--I told him that I reluctantly signed the form. I pleaded with him 'NOT' to let any RESIDENTS or INTERNS do the ERCP--as my… Body was severely Compromised by many Invasive and Complicated Surgeries in the Past. He literally "Blew Me Off" and deserted the Room. After the Surgery, he came in the Room and informed me that the OPERATION was ABORTED"--WONDER WHY?? I found out later that HE let an "unseasoned" INTERN or RESIDENT do the PROCEDURE--AGAINST my PLEA and WISHES. He KNEW all along from the "get-go" that He had turned me over to an INTERN or RESIDENT to perform the ERCP.--He then entered the room and informed me that I was to have an Emergency operation the next morning. That night before the morning operation, I developed a "Deadly" Case of Pancreatitis, Gout, and was given numerous Dangerous Antibiotics for a Deadly Infection the next morning. I AMOST DIED!! Because of this Nightmare Experience, I have become "Antiobiotic Resistant" and have cysts growing in the pancreas because of the Pancreatic Attack. PANCREATITIS does occur as a Result of ERCP Operational Errors. DR. J MAMEL BETRAYED the PATIENT-DOCTOR TRUST by ignoring my PLEAS and REQUESTS for HIM and ONLY HIM to perform the ERCP PROCEDURE. HE INTENTIONALLY FAILED to tell me of His PREARRANGED PLAN to transfer my procedure to an Intern or Resident. HE ABANDONED me as My Doctor-and did not have the COURAGE or DECENCY to even CHECK UP on me-- I NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN throughout the TOTAL of 5 OPERATIONS and a 21 Day Stay at Tampa General Hospital!!!! I understand that most patients undergoing an ERCP of my Nature--Stay one day in the Hospital and are Released the next Day for Outpatient Therapy!

Very thorough and caring physician. Was very helpful and informative. I really felt he understood and empathized with my situation.

Complete jerk and full of self hate. Attacks people who he knows nothing about with assumptions ... needs to get in shape himself.

Very difficult to reach after completion of procedure. Telephone communication borders on Antique at best.

It's not true. USF Morsani might have the most expensive doctors but the docs never stay in office. They rotate to different hospitals and never remember the patients. The nurses took forever to get back to you. They never call you about your test results. I wait for days and days even after I called several times! I am definiely over charged at this facility and they don't care. The service is very very bad compared to a private clinic. Nobody cares about you. All they do is send you bills. Don't expect to get a good care here. All doctors are fully occupied. 5 mins talk is the maximum.
