Dr. Jay Matthew Neugarten, MD

The place has an intense and very judgmental vibe. The only ones that are nice is the staff that works with the doctors. The doctors are proficient, but they lack some warmth to their patients. The people at the front desk are one of the most obnoxious snide people that I’ve met. When you leave the office, you feel like a weight has lifted off your shoulders.

The doctor is extremely knowledgeable and proficient. Unfortunately, the receptionist at the Manhattan location are extremely rude. I’m only giving three stars because of the receptionist/secretaries.

I went to Dr. Neugarten as a 24 year old male seeking double jaw surgery to correct a serious underbite. My underbite, besides being aesthetically unappealing, prevented me from breathing through my nose effectively, bite certain foods, gave me some pain, amongst other issues. The consult with Dr. Neugarten was reassuring. He made sure to tell me the pros and cons, explained the surgery procedure, and after the consult he gave a simulated before and after picture. The surgery itself went better than expected. I made sure to follow the exercises and routines that were given to me and the swelling went down quickly. After the first week I was going for runs, by the second week I was starting grad school and my new classmates couldn't even tell that my face still had significant inflammation. It's been about a year and a half since the surgery and I am happier than ever, even considering a career in modeling. Nose breathing comes natural to me, I can eat whatever I want with no issues,… and I never have any jaw pain. I know my experience may be different than others, and I don't think the surgery will turn everyone into models, but it is soo worth it and I don't think I could trust anyone other than Dr. Neugarten.

I had major oral surgery done by Dr. Neugarten 4 years ago. I still think about what a fantastic job he did removing the cyst from my face and doing the reconstructive surgery. I was very worried at first but everyone in his office was wonderful. I cannot say enough about him as a surgeon and about everyone in his practice - they are all terrific.

My name is Anatoliy Bolobov. Believe it or not, this is the first review I am writing in my 26 years of living in America. Of course I have met many good people, received great services, and purchased quality goods which all deserved a review. But no one and nothing deserves my attention and gratitude as much as Dr. Jay Neugarten does. I know in advance that no matter how long this review seems I cannot even articulate what I am thankful for. He didn’t just change my appearance; it seems to me that he shares his boundless vitality with all of his patients. Along with the surgery he imbued me with some unknown power that makes me smile and be happy, be alive. I cannot understand and sort out my feelings. I am straight by the way ?? and I love my children, wife, and parents. My feelings towards Dr. Jay Neugarten cannot be called love but it is such an immense feeling of gratitude that I unfortunately do not have enough words to describe. My father during his time occupied a senior… position in the management department of the president of Belarus. He is a designer and inventor. Even with his financial means and connections we were looking for a surgeon all over the world: Israel, Germany, UK, and yet there was no one who had the confidence that my surgery could be done or how to do it. Dr. Jay Neugarten, from my first visit, had no doubts as to how to perform the procedure. He described in precise and easily understood detail what would be done during the surgery, and how it would be done. I was also very surprised when a major part of the costs was paid by my medical insurance. As for money, believe me, you do not want a cheap surgeon – you want the best one. Dr. Jay Neugarten is a person the likes of whom are only a few in the world (or there is no specialist who is his equal). I am an engineer myself. I can repair and put together anything mechanical. In America you can buy anything and I have understanding of how to put together a space rocket. But I cannot begin to understand how my totally disproportionate head could be modified to create such perfect proportions connecting all bones, nerves, blood vessels, and muscles. I was worried about feeling in my lips, however after the operation (after some time) the feeling in my lips completely recovered and, probably because my mouth became more proportionate, kissing has become even sweeter ??. On my x-ray I look like a Transformer with an artificial joint in my head and yet I do not have any foreign body sensation there. I still want to tell the truth of course and not everything is roses. I was given anesthetic to fall asleep during the surgery; it seemed like I woke up a second later and the surgery (which took 9 hours in my case) was done. The first day after the surgery was very hard – it wasn’t pain but a strange feeling of “weightlessness”, and my head swelled up like a watermelon, I was almost crying and thinking, why did I agree to this. But that was for literally one day, and now it’s funny when I think about it ??. The swelling went away quicker than I was told it would, and in two weeks I was back at work (I could have been back even sooner ??). I want to say that your recovery depends on you – follow the doctor’s instructions to the letter (and do not doubt him for a second), believe in yourself and the positive outcome of the surgery. If you are a pessimist by nature you are better off avoiding complex surgeries. There was another surgeon at the surgery, Dr. Stephen Sachs, and unfortunately I did not get a chance to talk to him for very long, but my impressions were that in his eyes you can see boundless professionalism, intellect, and manners. In general the entire medical office knows very well what they are doing. During the first, truly hard, day after the surgery I didn’t understand what was going on with me but I remember my impressions very well. I thought, it’s so good that there is an angel here, and her name is Dr. Elisheva Rosenfeld – she knows how to talk to patients. I also want to say about all other employees working in this office, everything is so professional and everyone knows their duties and treats their clients with sincerity and understanding. The whole office looks like beautiful angels are building the future there. Lastly, in my vision it is people exactly like Dr. Jay Neugarten who will build the future that seems surreal fiction now. When the doctor will be 90 years old, times will come when he can attach an artificially grown body to a head of a 100 year old man and if I would have the opportunity I would not hesitate a second to go for that kind of surgery

Dr. Jay Neugarten is the most amazing, expert, knowledgeable, committed and compassionate oral surgeon I have ever met. Dr. Neugarten and his entire team, Dr. Epstein, Ben, Lisa and Jill, along with everyone else in the office are not only professional and polite, they are truly caring and supportive. This is the team that gave me my life back. At age 63, I first met Dr. Jay Neugarten in March of 2015 when I was referred to him by my dentist to discuss dental implant options. All of my other multiple attempts at implants had failed and had left me in an improperly fitting denture. For me, it was truly demoralizing to be in a denture. Worse than that, it did not stay in. In May of 2015 I underwent zygomatic implant surgery, an amazing procedure, which placed four implants (2 on each side) into my cheekbones. I was able to leave Dr. Neugarten’s office the day of surgery with fixed teeth. Sadly, I became infected over the summer and ultimately these implants failed. I was an… emotional and physical mess. Still in what remained of my fixed teeth, the compassion, support and expertise of Dr. Neugarten’s staff and Ben got me through the summer as Ben was able to wire a tooth so that I could smile at my son’s engagement party. Throughout that summer and into 2016, I was in constant contact with Dr. Neugarten and his team. I cried and laughed with them. On January 4, 2017, I underwent the procedure again, this time 6 zygomatic implants, (3 on each side) were placed in my mouth. Last week, I bit into an apple. My new teeth are not only beautiful, they are fixed. I can eat and smile without fear or hesitation. What an amazing, emotional journey this has been. I am forever grateful to be where ere I am today. I highly recommend the entire NYCOMS team: Lisa, Jill, the Front Desk staff, Ben, Dr. Epstein, and especially Dr. Neugarten.

Wow Dr. Neugarten was such a pleasant man to work with. In the beginning of the road I was quite nervous to get work done on my jaw, but Dr.Neugarten and his staff made me feel very comfortable, leaving all my doubts and worries behind. The staff insurance was impeccable working countless hours and dedication making sure that I was happy and understood the process. The outcome of what he has done for me is 100% incredible. I feel more confident, my jaw looks phenomenal, and I am very happy with my transformation! Thank you Dr.Neugarten you have changed my life for the better.

My son was born with a small airway that caused him to have severe obstructive sleep apnea since birth. As he grew, my sonâ??s sleep apnea worsened and other treatments such as having his adenoids and tonsils removed and having his epiglottis stitched up failed to improve his condition. We were referred to Dr. Neugarten by our ENT and were impressed from our first meeting with him and his team. My family spent several hours in consultation with Dr. Neugarten over multiple meetings and he made us feel comfortable. He took a LOT of time to answer each of our questions and to address our concerns. He wonâ??t necessarily tell you what you want to hear â?? he will tell you the truth and prepare you for what the procedure will entail, including recovery. Much more importantly, he made our son feel comfortable. Dr. Neugarten performed a surgery called mandibular distraction surgery that involves pulling the lower jaw forward in order to increase the diameter of the airway to fix the… sleep apnea. Just thirteen days following surgery, a sleep study showed that our sonâ??s sleep apnea was 100% gone! The difference in lifestyle for our son is incredible â?? he has much more energy and is much less grouchy during the day. We have had numerous follow-ups with Dr. Neugarten and during each session he has made our son feel comfortable and at ease. If you are considering a serious dental/medical surgery, particularly if it is for a child, you MUST consider asking Dr. Neugarten to help you. The quality of life difference for our son has been immeasurable. Our family will always be grateful to Dr. Neugarten for what he did for us.

Dr. Neugarten is an absolute genius, he worked on my jaw twice and because of him I can go out and actually try and pick up girls in the NYC area. He is priced highly only because of where his office is located and the amount of time he spends on each individual patient. He cares about each and every detail of his work which is what makes him such a great doctor!

Dr. Neugarten and his staff we very professional. I was in need of some to help my situation of a underbite and crooked jaw. I saw 4 oral surgeons all over the region and no one made as comfortable as Dr. Neugarten. He took the time to explain to me what I need and what is involved in helping me. He and the staff told me what I needed to do with my medical insurance to have the procedures covered and it was all taken care of without difficulty. I would consider Dr. Neugarten top in his field, empathic and someone who practices with passion. If you have a jaw problem I would highly recommend Dr. Neugarten and his office to take care of you.
