I have been to allen co area mental doctors for 15yrs I'v been under Dr Patels care for several years now. From being admitted to weekly visitsup to 6 month check ups. He has spent time with me understanding me every way possible. I have multiple diagnosis and I will return to him even through disagreements I have had as well as my well being under his care. He has did his best as well as his staff with me. Good doctor. I do suggest seeing him. Out of at least 12+mental doctors I have seen dr jay patel is who I trust. Glad to be under his care

Dr. Patel has been my Dr for 10 years and I believe he is the best Psychiatrist in Fort Wayne. I have several family members and close friends that also see Dr. Patel and we all think he is great!

It has been 2 yrs since my husband was seen by Dr Patel. He was his patient for a little less than a yr. He was referred to him by another psychiatrist who was great but no longer in our health network. Dr Patel removed my husband one by one from meds that were working well for him. The last 2 visits my husband had with him the dr had placed him on a med that did nothing for him. My husband recalls him saying "it should work" and increased the strength. To no avail, it made him worse. We went elsewhere due to a near breakdown brought on by this doctor prescribling incorrect meds & not listening to my husband's concerns about the meds he was prescribing him. My husband suffers from bipolar, generalized anxiety, and depression. My husband has been taking meds for 20 yrs & this dr didn't care to hear what worked/not worked for him. Only prescribed what he wanted. My husband slowly recovered once we found a new psychiatrist. My husband says wait time was less than 5 min because there… was never anyone in his office--he feels it should have been a sign.

does not listen to patients, tells them to be quiet instead of listening to symptoms and issues, does not provide enough time to diagnose issue per visit, severely over medicates, misdiagnosis, office openly tells patient they will be discontinued as a client if late even once for ANY reason; you can get in quickly to this doctor and the office staff is courteous

This doctor is terrible and I agree he shouldn't be allowed to practice. He wrongly diagnosed some of the pain I had as "somatization disorder." Pretty much, he said the pain was all in my head even what I went for and I never complained of, except on the paperwork which I happened to list a pain syndrome I have.I went to him because I was struggling with severe depression and suicidal thoughts. He did NOTHING for my depression at all. Nothing, in spite of the fact that I wanted to kill myself. This didn't concern him, however pain I didn't even want treated (it is well managed) was of interest to him?

MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ATTEMPTED SUICIDE..AFTER BEING EVALUATED BY ANOTHER DOCTOR, MY DAUGHTER WAS FOUND TO STILL BE EXTREMELY SUICIDAL WITH THE OTHER DR. INFORMING ME THAT SHE WAS NEAR POSITIVE THAT IF MY DAUGHTER WAS RELEASED, THAT MY DAUGHTER WOULD ATTEMPT UNTIL SHE SUCEEDED AS MY DAUGHTER BLUNTLY TOLD THIS OTHER DR. SHE WOULD MAKE SURE OF IT. DR. PATEL THE SAME DAY AT NEARLY 10:00PM COMES AND TELLS MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER THAT HE DIDN'T SEE ANY REASON FOR HER TO BE ADMITTED TO A BEHAVIORAL HEALTH HOSPITAL AND TOLD MY DAUGHTER SHE WOULD BE RELEASED THE VERY NEXT DAY. HE IS A DANGEROUS MAN IN MY OPINION AND HIS ADVICE SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST. HIS RECOMMENDATION FOR DISCHARGE WAS MADE AFTER SPEAKING WITH MY DAUGHTER FOR 10 MIN. ON THE SAME EXACT DAY THAT MY DAUGHTER UNDER WENT A THOROUGH EVALUATION FROM ANOTHER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL...I CANNOT BELIEVE HE IS EVEN ALLOWED TO PRACTICE IN TH UNITED STATES

Dr. Patel prescribed medicine that made the problem dangerously worse, and ordered a very ill patient to be discharged, ordering the social worker not to provide any discharge plannning whatsoever. He wrote on the discharge instructions that the patient should return to the doctor who had previously discharged the patient from care, at an agency that would no longer provide services. He did this having been told that another hospitalization would put the patient in a state mental hospital.
