Dr. Jean-Pierre Pierre Yared, MD

Jean-Pierre Yared, MD, is the Director of the Center for Critical Care Medicine in the Heart and Vascular Institute and a staff anesthesiologist in the Anesthesiology Institute at the Cleveland Clinic where he is on the staff of the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine, and he has successfully completed the National Board Examination. Dr. Yared specializes in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine. , he has a specialty interest in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and in modulation of the inflammatory response to cardiopulmonary bypass. He also focuses on clinical research and resident education. A native of Lebanon, Dr. Yared received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut following an undergraduate degree in science. He continued his clinical training at the American University with an internship in pediatrics and residency training …in general anesthesia. He then received fellowships in cardiac anesthesia and in critical care medicine from Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic as a staff anesthesiologist in 1988. Prior to his appointment to the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Yared was Director of Cardiac Anesthesia and Post-Surgical Cardiac ICU at Dr. Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and attending anesthesiologist at Dr. Rizk Hospital in Beirut. He also had an academic appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the American University in Beirut. Dr. Yareds clinical research has focused primarily on studying the effects of various interventions for high-risk and cardiac surgery patients. He is currently receiving funding from the Population Health Research Institute as a co-investigator for a multi-center study on corticosteroids, initiated post-induction of anesthesia, in the management of coronary artery bypass graft patients requiring cardiopulmonary bypass. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles and abstracts in medical journals such as Anesthesia and Analgesia, Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery and Intensive Care Medicine. He is the author of a chapter on hemodynamics and respiratory monitoring in a medical textbook on the critically ill patient, as well as co-author of other chapters related to his research and specialty interests. He has been an invited lecturer at international and national medical conferences and symposia. Dr. Yared is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the Cleveland Society of Anesthesiologists.
