Dr. Jean Marie Prunty, MD

I first saw Dr. Prunty for chronic migraine syndrome. She prescribed a LOT of drugs and I honestly don't know if they helped, or if I gradually got better after leaving my stressful job. Two years later I had a concussion and went back to Dr. Prunty for help. She claimed to be a "concussion specialist" but did no testing other than waving a finger in front of my face. She recommended 3 months of "complete brain rest" and again prescribed drug after drug, forgetting from one appointment to the next that she'd already prescribed a drug. Later I would learn that none of the drugs she prescribed were considered effective for concussions, there are many tests she could have and should have done, and that prolonged brain inactivity was an outmoded treatment that made me sicker rather than helped me recover. As my symptoms increased and I grew far sicker I kept asking Dr. Prunty if there wasn't something else she could do to help me, and she told me no, there were no tests for concussions,… and I should go back on brain rest for another three months! I was finally so sick after 8 months I was having absence seizures, I could hardly speak, my executive functioning was shot, I was dizzy, nauseated, and my head felt like it was in a hot metal vice. I was begging her to see if there was some test that could identify what in my brain was damaged, but she said no, there was nothing, and "Let's try you on adderall, that should help." (I was already on adderall she'd prescribed not long before.) I knew I was in danger if I continued to see this doctor. A friend googled Dr. Prunty and found she'd previously been disciplined for prescription drug abuse. A week after my last appointment, I fell and had a second concussion. The emergency room doctors told me I could have died. My new doctor told me that Dr. Prunty's concussion protocol was years out of date and 8 months of her lack of appropriate care was the equivalent of letting my injured brain scar over, and my recovery was going to be much longer and more difficult. Despite now having adequate medical care for my traumatic brain injuries and long-term post-concussion syndrome, it's been more than 3.5 years since my first concussion and I am still struggling to recover. If I could sue Dr. Prunty for malpractice I would. She even had the gall to continue to send me a bill for my last appointment. When I filed a complaint with the hospital, they at first seemed alarmed, then sent me a letter saying my treatment had been evaluated and found appropriate...by Dr. Prunty!

Beware of the strict appointment policy through Copley Hospital staff - three strikes and your out without notice, they just never call you back. Apparently, Dr. Prunty's scheduling staff who actually are part of Copley Hospital informed me today that it is unacceptable behavior for a patient to change, cancel or miss three appointments in a year's time. This response came only after I had left numerous messages for over two weeks without a single call back. Yeah I admit it, I am busy and life happens, so I may have missed one appointment without noticing them, did change the second one in advance, and cancelled the third one only an hour before but it was due to a death in the family! Charge me a fee. Call and yell at me. Ignore me at length and then respond only to tell me they are refusing to continue seeing me as a patient? Really? Do these people live in the real world? The unprofessional behavior of the staff and the fact that I pay cash in advance is… confounding to me. Oh well, their loss - another doctor was willing to accept me and my cash within an hour of the rejection conversation. I am posting this so Dr. Prunty is aware of how unprofessional her staff is as I am sure they will never take a call from me again after I told them exactly what I thought of their policy on the phone.

Dr.Prunty ordered tests which were appropriate for diagnosing the problems I was having. When those came back negative, it helped her recommend follow up with an Endocrinologist for my thryoid. Three doctors were not able to see what she could, my primary and subsequently an Endocrinologist and an ENT. Dr. Prunty is an out of the box thinker, and thank god she is, because she has helped save my quality of life. She listened to me when I told her my symptoms and help find the answer. I feel very fortunate to have gone to Dr. Prunty. I find her to be sympathetic and an active listener.

I admit I have a complicated problem but this doc is crazy. I don't think I have ever had so many drugs recommended to me in the time i have been seeing her. Every 6 weeks or so she makes me try a new drug! Seems every time she gets a new sample, she makes me try it. I get significant side-effects with the drugs and sets me back in my healing. don't be fooled by her

Excellent Doctor with a caring personal nature. Open to trying everything possible to help the patient. Thinks outside the box to do the best possible care.

Dr.Prunty does not care about you. All she does is pass out meds. You can have serious side effects to these meds and she does not care. She will prescibe you meds you should not have due to counter-actions with other meds. She was a drug abuser herself and may be on that path again.
