Dr. Jeena George Jacob, PhD

I had a phone call scheduled with Dr. Jacobs to discuss beginning therapy. She said she forgot we had a call scheduled, so we spoke later. She mentioned on the call that she may not be taking on new patients, and while I understand therapists of course need to make money like all of us, the conversation likely should have began with letting me know that. However, we texted and she was able to get me in two weeks later. I was sent a link to fill out the information requested and did so prior to our appointment. She asked me to move the appointment, but I had already moved a work call, so the time was kept the same. Then at the time of our appointment I had no link and I had texted and called Dr. Jacob. She responded an hour later to me saying, "Kaitlyn Just saw this message. I had looked for your completed registration yesterday and saw that it was still incomplete and I had sent out a reminder as well last week. Unfortunately the link for the session does not go out unless… registration is completed. As a result the link for today did not go out and I had another appointment scheduled instead. There will be no charge for today. It’s unfortunate that the is happened but I wish you well Regards Dr Jacob." I received the reminder link and my profile said it was complete. She essentially placed the fault on me while offering no solution to the upsetting situation and not even apologizing. Her lack of concern and empathy for a potential new client and not even reaching out to me prior is incredibly unprofessional and speaks volumes to the type of psychologist she is. It's incredibly hard to navigate this healthcare system, and especially when you're already feeling down. I've seen several therapists and if information is needed that they didn't receive before an appointment, they simply communicated that. I'm currently working on getting my MSW and quickly learning that it's often mental health professionals who behave this way who are the reason people give up their search and don't get the help they need. I'm someone who will just continue my search and find a different therapist, but for others it's a really big step to reach out for help and being dismissed in this way can cause people to stop searching because it's so upsetting. This is a disservice to those seeking help for their mental health. It makes me sad to see this and it's very disappointing.
