I had a bridge created by a DIFFERENT dentist in 2010. The bridge made by THE PREVIOUS dentist was so poorly constructed that it is disintegrating and has separated from my gum in the back. There has been a great deal of infection that has built up underneath it. Eventually the pain became so intense that I knew I had to find a better dentist. I went to Dr. Cook about a week ago; he X-rayed my mouth and found an abscessed tooth under the bridge. He explained that often, even if the area is swabbed with a local anesthetic, the shot to numb the area can be very painful. He said this occurs when the patient has a great deal of infection around the abscessed tooth. Because my tooth was abscessed, he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and scheduled a root canal for the following week. I went yesterday for the followup root canal. He explained that he was going to go through the back of the partial. He was very gentle; I did not feel the "numbing shot." When he opened up the… partial, he said the area looked like "oatmeal." I am so grateful that he elected to put in an antibiotic filling and wait another week to do the root canal. I will post again after the completion of my dental work.
