He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida, where he also completed a residency in general adult psychiatry followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. He served as chief resident during the final year of his fellowship.Dr. Alvaro was awarded a USF Department of Psychiatry Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award 2003/2004; and he also was awarded the USF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, Child Psychiatry Fellowship 2014/2015 Educator of the Year.
