Summary
Dr. Byrd grew up in the Laurinburg community. During his medical residency, Dr. Byrd received the Pediatric Teacher Award twice, the Intern Teacher of the Year award, and the Developmental Intern of the Year award. Dr. Byrd also found time to coach youth baseball, provide care to an underserved town, and assist in the organization of a cystic fibrosis walk. In 2005, he and his wife, Mitzi, a Registered Nurse, and four year old son, Parker, moved home when Dr. Byrd joined the staff of The Purcell Clinic as a Board Certified Pediatrician. Dr. Byrd is a member of the North Carolina Pediatric Society, The North Carolina Medical Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Laurinburg Optimist, Deacon in the Presbyterian Church, and has been elected to the Scotland County School Board. His favorite past time is enjoying family outings with Mitzi, Parker, and daughter, Gracen. When time permits, he enjoys boating and being a sports fan.
