Dr. Jeffrey Brian Gewirtz, DPM

When I first became a patient of Dr. Gewirtz maybe 10 years ago, he was awesome! Thought he was friendly and knowledgeable. Few years after, I brought my teenage son to him and he also thought he was great. Recently I went to him entrusting that he would give me the same great care once again, great bedside manner and expertise like he did in the past. Unfortunately I did not have the same experience. I went in as a desperate patient suffering of pain for weeks. I had seen my orthopedic prior who gave me a diagnosis that just wasn’t adding up. So with my previous experience, I felt confident that Dr. Gewirtz would have an open mind since he is a specialist with the feet, and my complaint was foot pain for weeks to the point I couldn’t walk. My ortho suggested a stress fracture, but made it clear it’s hard to diagnosis with just X-ray alone. I followed his suggestion on taking it easy and wearing an orthopedic post surgery shoe for a few weeks and it should get better. Well it got… worse, pain traveled, the pain was so intense I couldn’t walk or even sleep at night. Dr. Gewirtz saw me, listened to my symptoms, for how long this has been an issue and what may have caused it. He completely disagreed with ortho and said it was a nerve issue. I asked if he would like to take an X-ray, he said no, not necessary I can’t take an educated guess what it is. Well doc I don’t want an educated guess? I want answers ... told me the pain should start to subside and no need to do anything.. his words” if it’s not broke why try and fix it”.. well a week later the pain was so unbearable, I decided to see my primary who just ordered and MRI.. low and behold... Ortho was right!! Stress fracture that needed to be mobilized with a boot... no nerve damage... when I returned to his office with these results, not only was he rude and abrupt would not admit to the fact he was wrong.. my son came with me that day to have a wart looked at on his toe and treated, well he cut away at his wart, he was in pain and never offered to numb it for him. My son is 14... dealt with the discomfort but after we left said mom I don’t want to go back to him!! Found out when I was there my sons insurance was not In network and he charged me $150 for torture! He was suppose to call In a cream for him, which never happened, I called the office 4 days later asking for the cream, never happened. The office staff is wonderful, I thought Dr. Gewirtz was too at one time, but maybe now after being in practice for a bit, he has lost his sense of pride and compassion as a doctor!! Don’t waste your time... and to think of all the people I use to brag to him about! :(

My 17 yr old son finally showed me his infected ingrown toenail when he could no longer wear sneakers. The office was more than accomodating working with our schedule. Our waiting time was less than 7 minutes when we arrived. Dr. Gewirtz put him at ease, talking directly to my son. He explained cause, treatment and how to avoid this condition in the future. The treatment was quick and painless after numbing the area. Our insurance was accepted. Dr. Gewirtz answered all our questions and we were not rushed out like some offices. I would highly recommend this doctor to friends, family and strangers!
