Dr. Jeffrey Philip Johnson, MD

I walked out of the surgery with more pain then I went in with. The pain was so intense afterwards, so he gave me a steroid pack that worked for a day or so. He gave a second steroid pack with the same result. Then he gave me a full dosage for 2 weeks. I was not given any warning about the possible risk I was taking. As a result of the steroids he gave me, I got a condition called Avascular Necrosis which causes the blood to stop flowing to the hip bone and the bone to die. My hips were crumbling and I had to have both completely replaced. I have yet to have another surgeon understand why I was given oral steroids rather than a localized shot. The Primary Care Dr that referred me to him said she would never refer him another patient. I am completely disabled as a result of my treatment by Dr Johnson and can barely walk anymore. I used to be a very busy and active person and now I spend most of my life in bed because the pain is so intense. I have found another surgeon who has had… great success with my condition and he believes he can get rid of 85-90% of the pain. Another Dr told me Dr Johnson didn't even operate on the right spot.

4 days after meeting Dr. Johnson, he performed back surgery on me at the Wilsonville clinic. The results have been excellent and I could not be more pleased with my results.

Dr. Johnson and his PA, Martha, are both very kind, considerate, and intelligent. I initially saw Dr. Johnson who diagnosed me with lumbar spinal stenosis of the foramen. This required a big surgery including a fusion with screws and rods. I was in the hospital for several days and Martha came around and saw me each day. The recovery was painful and difficult, but they had prepared me appropriately so that I knew what to expect. After about 4-6 weeks my pain decreased significantly and I was able to walk long distances again for the first time in years! I am so grateful to Dr. Johnson and their office. As far as the people giving negative reviews, I am quite shocked. I found the front desk staff, insurance woman, and every one involved in my care to be incredibly diligent and compassionate as well as responsive. I have sent many of my friends and family there as well and they have all had wonderful things to say, even if they didn't need surgery.

Dr. Johnson's bedside manner is good. He's very nice and professional but the issue lies with his staff. I'm an Asian-American, born and raised in the US. I served 12 years in our country's military and my father served 23 years. For the two old Caucasian women who run the front, newsflash! It's 2019 and 1953 called and they want their racism back. No, this is NOT your land! It was inhabited long before white settlers arrived. For the two of you to openly make racist remarks and get away with it is terrible! I'm sure my "Asian" family has done more for this country than the two of you have. Dr. Johnson, if you're reading this, please, do something about this because it will come back to bit you in the butt.

I am writing this lengthy review because I know how scary it is to trust your spinal cord to a surgeon you don’t know. Also I couldn't find anything relating to my particular surgery from a patients point of view. So I am writing this to help anyone else who finds themselves facing this surgery. If I could give Dr. Johnson a 10 star rating I would! He was professional and upfront about my surgery; Posterior Bilateral c3-4, c4-5, c5-6 Decompression Laminectomy. He told me a successful surgery meant he could stop it from getting worse, but could not expect a reversal of symptoms. That was scary to hear because there was no guarantee and I was losing my balance. I was also having difficulty walking, couldn't write, and my hands were numb and starting to shake. He said I needed surgery ASAP. I was scared because my symptoms were getting worse every day, and even if he could stop the progression I was still stuck with my existing symptoms. I did my homework and found… every review possible regarding Dr. Johnson. Someone wrote that he didn't care for his "bedside manor" but I liked that he had 25 years experience regardless. I had to wait 30 minutes for my first appointment and soon learned why. He takes time with his patients and he listens. He is extremely knowledgeable. He showed me my MRI and told me that all surgeons might not agree on how to do the surgery (anterior or posterior) but ALL would agree I needed it ASAP! He had a calm, reassuring and patient "bedside manner" which is why I had to wait so long. He took his time. He explained in detail. He carefully listened to all of my concerns. My daughters then called in on a conference call and he patiently answered all of their questions and addressed every concern. He said he would do it posterior. My daughters texted me separately and said they liked him and felt confident in his skill. I agreed. We set the surgery date. After talking to him I wanted to know the difference exactly between posterior and anterior. The posterior was more painful in all the information I could find on the web. I wasn't sure I wanted the posterior but I trusted him. He knew what he was talking about and I had confidence in his experience and patience. I'm so glad he did posterior. The scar will be less noticeable on the back on my neck. After my surgery I was in the hospital 4 days. He came in every day to see me and talk to my daughter. As soon as I was able to eat I could immediately put food in my mouth without shaking! I was over the moon happy to be able to eat without shaking and missing my mouth! He is a brilliant surgeon! All of my symptoms are gone except a slight numb thumb! He gave me back my life and I am eternally grateful to him! I would also like to mention his staff. They were all wonderful. The front desk (Sherrie) was kind enough to fill out my paperwork at my first appointment because I couldn't even write legibly which was embarrassing. I was so grateful to her as well. Many times when I called into the office I did get a recording and left a message. They called by right away and refilled meds etc. I highly recommend Dr. Jeffrey Johnson and his staff.

Dr.Johnson did my surgery on my neck for a herniated disk at c7-t1 never c8. When I first went to Dr.Johnson I felt he was competent just a bit cold. I was told that all the pain I was having would be gone and I would feel like a new person when I woke up. Except for the incision of course. It has been 8 months now and I have had a nerve induction test and a new MRI only to show that I still have a nerve pinch at the same location. So now waiting to see a new surgeon and possible another surgery so two neck surgery's in one year.

Dr Johnson seemed considerate but based on his diagnosis, he apparently either wasn't listening or didn't believe me and he hadn't read the reports in my medical records from 2 prior neurologists who diagnosed me with both carpal tunnel and ulnar neuropathy based on an emg. I told him that all fingers were going numb in both hands and he responded that this was classical carpal tunnel which it's not. Little finger and ring finger numbness arent classic capital tunnel! To make matters worse, he went on to say he'd do the corrective surgery for ulnar neuropathy if i wanted him to. Then i completely lost confidence.

Always explains the diagnosis, surgery procedure so that you can understand what to expect and will give you an approximate recovery period. He will also work with you if you experiencing difficult pain issues after surgery.

Dr Johnson's technical skills are adequate but it is not enough to overcome his unprofessional behavior. A couple of months after I had lower back surgery the numbness with pins and needles came back. I called the office and they made an appointment for me to come back. I showed up on time and after waiting 30 minutes the receptionist came out and told me the Dr. had some scheduling conflicts and wouldn't see me. I brought up the issues I was having and she told me the Doctor said it was normal to lose the feeling again and he wouldn't see me. There were only two of us in the waiting room and the office hours were still open for 1.5 hours. I have since seen another doctor and was told this is a very serious problem and we have scheduled a new treatment plan that includes an additional surgery. The front office staff was rude and I believe the receptionist giving me medical advice surely breaks the medical board in Oregons rule if not several laws.

First and foremost I am a serious, professionally trained dancer. When I began to experience sciatica so badly I could not even walk, my pediatrician sent me to Dr. Johnson, He took plenty of time to explain what the visuals on the MRI meant and was kind enough not to sugar-coat the severity of my disc degeneration. My first surgery took me from level 10 pain all through my sciatic nerves to no pain after my recovery period. I have continued to see Dr. Johnson and within the last year have received back fusion surgery. I suggest anyone with severe spinal issues to attempt to get in to Dr. Johnson. He is a talented, earnest surgeon with a kind heart. He has made life possible for me again and I know he does his best to provide all his clients with livable solutions for their individual back issues.
