Dr. Jeffrey Mark Kargman, MD

After over 20 years as his patient, on the date & time of my telephone appointment, his office manager called and said, "He decided to retire." No referrals, but he would prescribe meds for 3 months.... Thanks. I only asked him 50 times about this topic as he was dealing with an illness... He broke my heart. I cared about this man. Confidence in medical treatment for my severe mental health issues has been greatly affected. This will be the last time I speak of any of this.

Not impressed. Felt overly medicated.

He's average overall. He's attentive to whatever medicines he's prescribing but that's about it. He's not someone to go to for psychoanalysis or deep understanding. If you have an additional medical problem relating to your symptoms forget it. I guess I compare him to the best psychiatrist I ever had over 30 years ago. He had been very Freudian, extremely intelligent, very analytical and insightful, an older gentlemen wearing a 3 piece suit, classical music playing in a neat and clean waiting room, kind and receptive to my own insights and understanding. One of a kind I guess, haven't found another one like him since. As for Dr. K. recognize he just has a more cut and dry no frills approach.

On the positive side he'll try to get your medication right and he'll make every effort to do that to the best of his ability. He'll take the time to listen and he will respect your opinion about how the medication is working for you or not. Few are better than he his when it comes to that. On the negative side, if he becomes unable to practice for awhile there may not be a contingency plan in place unless he fixed that. So you may find yourself the day before your next appt, with zero doctor and advice from the secretary to go see your primary care physician. Who knows when he'll be back. A few months later you might get a letter with 3 options of who to see. I called the first doctor and was told they were so inundated with Dr. K's patients nothing would be avail. for moths. Fortunately option 2 turned out to have availability and is a very fine doctor. Realistically I'm still just a Dr. K. stray though so just have a back up plan ready because no one else will. It's like this -… analyze your doctor. If you look around the waiting room, see a tree in an awkward position, a few dead plants on the table, and an abundance of travel magazines for your enjoyment realize that the aesthetics of the waiting room reveal how one feels about his or her patients. You;ll end up in an awkward position like a neglected forgotten dead plant so you may want to travel now. Also does he like what he does for a living? Some doctors do and some doctors don't. Ask. He may say he hates it, wasn't his idea, was forced into it by a relative or something. Maybe he'll say he likes it. Why not ask?

I've been a patient of Dr. Kargman's for more than 10 years and have seen a dramatic decline in his abilities over that time. He presently is "unavailable" and his staff has no clue when or even if he'll be back. The alternative physicians are clinics in the area with the worst reputations.

is Dr Kargman still open?

Dr Kargman is at best a bystander in your medical treatment. He sits there totally uninterested & uninvolved in what you are saying. Three times he gave me the wrong prescription or dosage. When I picked my prescriptions up at the pharmacy they weren't even what I was taking and then when he did get the medication correct the dosage was wrong. I could've died from his mistakes. When I told him and showed him the proof from my Pharmacy printouts. He didn't apologize or even seem to give care. Beware stay away

Dr. Kargman is a very caring doctor and very nice person. I have been seeing him for many years. However, over three years I have seen a downgrade in his services. He is still very nice but the quality of psychotherapy he provides seems to be somewhat ineffective. Also seems forgetful. He did not even take note that the last time I saw him he switched my medicine to Cymbalta and when I told him how I was feeling on the Cymbalta he said aren't you still on Lexapro. Also I have noticed recently he no longer has evening office hours. Maybe he is getting ready to retire or has personal problems. Overall he is a very nice person but an ok doctor

Dr. Kargman is a nice dr. Friendly, caring, and listens well. However, I asked for guidance to taper off of antidepressants a year and five months ago. I was given a taper schedule of 2 months. I have been in agonizing withdrawal and am now unable to work and am on public assistance due to the way too fast taper of antidepressants. I suggest dr. Kargman and others refer to paxilprogress.org to see that a taper off antidepressants should be a year long minimum if you have been on them for over a two years. While others are getting married, having kids, going to work, going on vacations,... I have been laying in bed and going for slow walks around the house because that is all I can handle. Withdrawal from these meds can last from 2-5 years if you withdrawal too fast as I was told to. I hope to one day get my life back, for now I can only hope to help others and inform dr's on how to taper these meds.
