Dr. Jeffery R Sumsion, DDS

I love being an orthodontist. Like winning the Lottery, orthodontics has opened the world to me and my family. There is extreme satisfaction in seeing new smiles, better self confidence and lives change. I often get asked: “What would I do if this was my child or my mouth?” With this in mind, I treat each individual case as if I were treating my own son, daughter, or wife. Here at Park City Orthodontics, my team and I have the same goal in mind: to provide excellent care to each and every one of our patients and make them feel like family. I have been part of the Park City and surrounding communities practicing orthodontics since 1993.
Education
I am a native of Utah, and was raised in Bountiful, just 45 minutes North of Park City. I received undergraduate education at Brigham Young University, where I also competed on the Ski Team. I continued on to spend fours years at dental school at Oregon Health Sciences University where I earned my Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree. …I then received my Master of Science and Specialist Certificate in Orthodontics (a two year program) at St. Louis University.
I attend many more continuing education classes than required by the state. We are always learning to successfully use the latest technology, including Damon Braces, Invisalign, mini-screws and lasers. I am also a member of Wasatch Orthodontic Study Club and the Utah Damon Study Club. These classes help our patients receive the best treatment with results in the shortest amount of time.
Outside the Office
I live here in Park City, with my wife Kristen (we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary). We have four children. Alexis is just about to graduate from NYU (yea!), Chloe is a dancer and a freshman at BYU, Ben attends Park City High School and plays soccer, and Sam is at Ecker Hill International Middle School and plays lacrosse.
Even though my ski racing career ended, I still love to ski, but my true passion has been cycling. I enjoy both road and mountain biking. I started bike racing in 1984 to keep me in shape for ski racing during the Summer months, and fell in love with the sport. My “passing phase” in cycling has lasted more than 30 years. I still actively compete, and my bike has taken me all over the world. I also skate ski, attend my children’s activities, and travel with my family.
