He was awarded the Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research for his work in this area and received the first International Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Association Research Fellowship.
Tabas completed an internal medicine residency and emergency medicine residency at UCLA Medical Center. He is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine, where he has won several awards, including the UCSF School of Medicine Clinical Teaching Award.
