Dr. Bucholz joined The Pain Center of Arizona after leaving the University of Michigan Medical Center, where he had served on faculty as an Assistant Professor in both their Center for Interventional Pain Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology. An alumnus of Michigan State University, Dr. Buchoz received his medical degree form the Michigan State University of Osteopathic Medicine before completing his residency in Anesthesiology and subsequent fellowship training in Pain Management, both at the University of Michigan Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
He is currently board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He specializes in the interventional-based treatment of chronic pain and his particular areas of interest include low back pain, head pain and neck pain, nerve-based pain conditions and pediatric pain. As a member of the International Spinal Injection Society (ISIS,) Dr. Bucholz specifically utilizes state of the art, …evidenced-based indications and treatment protocols in the management of his patients.
Dr. Bucholz has lectured nationally on several Pain Medicine topics including Spinal Injections, Pediatric Pain, Chronic Pain on the Aging, Chronic Pain in African Americans, Cervicogenic Headache, Therapeutic Facet Joint Procedures, Risk Factors for Low Back Pain, the Use of Membrane Stabilizers in Chronic Pain, Naturopathic Pain, Intrathecal Medicines for Cancer Pain, Indwelling Infusion Catheters and Dorsal Horn Receptor Pharmacology. In 2004 he was awarded at the Midwest Anesthesiology Residence Conference at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for his work on Pediatric Cancer Pain. His other scientific activities also included research on tunneled peripheral catheters as well as the use of Spinal Cord Stimulation for the treatment of patients with both ischemic pain and angina.
In addition to ISIS, Dr. Bucholz is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Academy of Pain Medicine and the American Academy of Pain Management.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dr. Bucholz is also a proud husband and a father. He is committed to the excellent, compassionate care of his patients at The Pain Center of Arizona.
