My endocrine specialist referred me to Dr. VLR for a surgery consultation. I have an adrenal tumor that measures at 5.4cm. While that may sound small, bare in mind that the adrenal gland itself is only about the size of a thumb. Not only was Dr. VLR an hour late to my appointment, but he also claimed that he felt it was unnecessary to perform the adrenalectomy. My blood work showed a significant elevation in my cortisol levels and I had been experiencing pain, fevers, and vomiting. Dr. VLR said there was no indication that these symptoms were related to the adrenal tumor. He completely disregarded my test results which show an obvious hormonal irregularity stemming from the adrenal gland. Aside from that, there are medical standards regarding the size of tumors which states anything 4.9cm and greater on the adrenal gland should be removed (or an adrenalectomy should be performed); regardless if the tumor is causing issues or not. I spoke with another specialty surgeon who has… spectacular bedside manner and was very informative—she studied my test results and MRI thoroughly upon our consult. I am now scheduled to have the adrenalectomy this month after seeking a second opinion.

As a doctor myself my choice of Dr. Van Lier Ribbink was directed by a team of doctors directing how to deal with my pancreatic cancer. There was only one choice for the surgeon! In this direction I got what I wanted, a surgeon who was technically the best, plus confidence and stood for excellence in his field. I really did not need a bedside manner, I needed to live to see another day. Dr. Van Lier Ribbink identifies as a surgeon who plans on you seeing another day. Talk to your oncologist about facts and or sugar coating, talk to Dr. Van Lier Ribbink about your expected surgical results, clear, precise, with experience, excellence and confidence first. If you celebrate year one post cancer surgery or year four as I just did, there are only a rating possible for this doctor, 5 stars!!!!!

Superb surgeon. Results beyond expectations. That says it all.

I was dying of pancreatic cancer when Dr Wheling here in Show Low had me evaced to Scottsdale. Dr Van Lier Ribbink took many more tests and eventually had to remove a grapefruit sized tumor, 1/4 of my stomach, 1/2 my pancreas, gall bladder & spleen in a procedure called a Whipple. He saved my life!

When a doctor saves your life, there are not enough adjectives. Very thorough, dots all the i's and crosses every t. In other words there is nothing he is going to miss & nothing he is leaving to chance. Feel at ease, he will do everything to resolve your issue -it is his goal and Gods will. Be patient every minute you wait is rewarded with that much more life. I wait for him because he is busy, saving someone's life, and you are next just like I was.

Never felt in better hands. Doctor and staff topped whatever I had experienced before. His assistant made everything possible for me. Unbelievable good care and service. Waiting time 30-60min. Absolute expert for Parathyroid surgery.

I had a benign lump removed and felt well taken care of. He answered my questions and his staff was great. I would definitely recommend him.
