Dr. Jeffrey Whiting, MD

I had a disappointing experience with Dr. Whiting related to knee replacement surgery. He has a clear protocol regarding BMI: unless a patient has a BMI of 38.7 or lower, knee replacement is not considered. This policy appears to be a firm threshold and, in my case, no exceptions were discussed. During my visit, I felt that the decision regarding my candidacy for surgery had been made before I was even seen. The after-visit summary was generated before I entered the room, and no new weight measurement was taken that day. From my perspective, the decision seemed based solely on prior records and my BMI, without any updated clinical assessment even with the updated imaging. When I tried to ask questions or discuss this further, the conversation did not feel open or collaborative. I was told to reschedule a new exam after losing more weight. A revised target that, to my knowledge, had never been communicated before. I was not aware that the original weight goal from 2022 had… changed. Additionally, I received a follow-up letter summarizing the "exam" that did not align with my own recollection. Some of the statements in the letter seemed inconsistent with both my memory and parts of my medical history. I also felt uncomfortable when the first comment made during the visit referenced a long-standing needle phobia in a way that felt dismissive to me. It left me feeling judged rather than supported. Ultimately, I was dismissed from care not only by Dr. Whiting but, as stated in the communication I received, from the broader physician group. I believe this was related to my attempt to ask questions about the BMI policy and treatment decisions. While I understand the importance of evidence-based protocols, my personal experience left me feeling unheard and discouraged. I hope others find this information helpful when considering their options.

Dr. Whiting has been my doctor over 8 years he gave me a hip replacement when i was 26 yrs of age and he took care of me he is an awesome orthopedic surgeon!!!????

When I saw dr whiting I was extremely sick. Due to previous surgery with a different dr, I became septic. The infection had gotten into both artificial hips. Dr whiting was so amazing. I’m still not 100% but with dr whiting on my side, I will be soon.

Dr. Whiting is absolutely talented, shows compassion and listens to my concerns. I was referred to him by another renowned orthopedic specialist who admitted to me that he could not correct my deformity. Anytime another renowned specialist has enough confidence and humility to refer a patient to another specialist, that in itself speaks highly of a colleague. Dr. Whiting is the best.
