Dr. Shellenberger was very helpful and kind with my family member.

I went into the ER with flank pain, chest pains, labored breathing and running 105+ fever. I felt like I was dying. I was rushed back once my vitals were checked and my blood pressure was dangerously low. It turns out I had a double kidney infection and I was actually septic, despite already being on an antibiotic for a sinus infection. After waiting 5 hours in a room while running a 105 fever (after being given all the Tylenol and Advil in the world), the doctor finally came in the room, poked at me a bit, and finally ordered an X-ray. It took about 2 more hours for him to review the results and come back in to tell me that I had a kidney infection and that the antibiotic I was already on was “AHHHMAZINGGGGG FOR KIDNEY INFECTIONS.” He didn’t mention sepsis at all, despite the nursing staff communicating to me several times what state I was in. So, with that, I was sent home - despite being septic. No admission. No iv antibiotics. Still running a 104 fever, still deathly sick. The next… day I went to see my primary care doctor as a follow up to my ER visit and ended up passing out because of my condition. An ambulance was called and I ended up at St. Luke’s in the Vintage, where I was told that the antibiotic I was already on is not used to treat kidney infections, and that it was completely ineffective at going against a severe kidney infection - not even close to being one of the drugs used as a defense. The staff at St. Luke’s was appalled that Shellenberger discharged me at all, at the very least without even putting me on a proper antibiotics. So, I was admitted and pumped with IV antibiotics for days. Shellenberger essentially sent me off to die with his slow, blasé and inappropriately playful bedside manner. I knew he was making a bad call by only treating me with Advil and then calling it a day, but I was in such poor condition I couldn’t even think straight, so I just hoped he was correct. If you are seriously ill, AVOID him at all costs. I am convinced he was just some ordinary guy pretending to be a doctor - for all the help he was to me during that time. He was not just useless, but dangerous.
