Dr. Jennie Burr Hounshell, MD

Dr. Hounshell is an exemplary physician - very caring, committed and conscientious. She goes out of her way to deliver truly amazing care to my aging, diabetic mother, who has a limited knowledge of English, and has developed early signs of dementia. Dr. Hounshell listens carefully, never losing patience even when my mother keeps repeating herself (a common problem with dementia), and consults me when clarifitions are needed. She is a decisive, data-driven physician who always has a plan B, if standard treatments and therapies don't yield the expected results. When my mom's traditional diabetes medication was having debilitating side effects, Dr. Hounshell prescribed an effective alternative medicine, while withdrawing other medicines that were not needed.. Thanks to her thoughtful intervention, my mother's blood sugar is in good control. When needed, she also has cajoled insurance company to approve a much needed medicine or physical therapy. She is a great… practitioner with an extensive repertoire of tools in her proverbial "physician's" bag. Dr. Hounshell is always culturally sensitive. Respecting my mom's vegetarian diet, she even persuaded the senior center my mother frequently visits to add a healthy vegetarian option to their daily meal plan Yes -.Dr. Hounshell, my mother and your mother are all right - eat your vegetables! Hopefully, even committed carnivores will eventually recognize the salutary benefits of adding plant based proteins to their diet. Dr. Hounshell' template of best practices comprising of a healthy amalgam of intuition and compassion anchored by clinical data, may be the solution to America's soaring health care costs, rapidly aging population and growing diversity. Like a true leader, she inspires her support staff. The UW clinic at Windsor/Deforest is a wellspring of empathy, kindness and professionalism with everyone from Lisa & Gloria at the front desk to nurses like Amber, Crystal, Nicole, et al. performing their part with aplomb. (I apologize for the names not included). Due to this all-round excellence at this clinic, you always leave with an enhanced sense of well-being after every visit. Dr. Hounshell, the wonder woman of medicine is a role-model worth emulating!

I have been struggling with depression and anxiety for years. Jennie made me feel like a wack job and said no other medications besides the few we tried would work for me. I was suicidal and she sent me to a therapist who insisted it was a chemical imbalance and I needed to try more meds. Jennie would not do any more tests or help. I went to a different doctor who sat with me and listened and was kind and literally found the solution within a week. My life has completely turned around since then. Unfortunately I had to go back to Jennie because of a move. She gave me a new birth control that brought back my anxiety. She told me thats impossible and there is no correlation. I convinced her to switch me back and I am back to normal. Thank goodness i fought back against her because she has zero care for her patients happiness or health. All she wants is any easy appointment and to be done. She will make you feel embarassed about your concerns and will not listen to you. I had… to do blood tests through external labs because she refused to test things like my cholesterol and hormones.
