Dr. Jennifer Martha Casey, MD

I have worked with Dr casey for over 10 years . She is available and very responsive helping me navigate some very challenging times in my life. Extremely knowledgeable and listens and has made me feel like I am an integral part of my treatment plan. Would definitely recommend her

My doctor recommended this “psychiatrist” (I use that term loosely). At my initial intake, she told me she cannot take me as a patient because I was in the hospital when I was 12 (yes, for anxiety, depression and suicide ideation…..I thought this was her area of expertise). Then she proceeds to tell me she’s not comfortable with the meds I’m taking (the ones prescribed by my former psychiatrist who is no longer seeing patients), I thought she was in a field to HELP people. She made me feel awful about myself. I bawled my eyes out for hours. She should NOT be in the field of helping people with mental health issues.

Dr. Casey helped me dramatically with getting through some major life stressors as well as getting the proper meds & dosages. She is extraordinary! Not only is she highly educated & experienced, her personality and abilities are a fantastic fit for anyone who is struggling with their mental health. I would highly recommend her!

I am only writing a review because my last session was horrific and I don’t want anybody else who is struggling to experience this type of behavior from a medical professional you're entrusting with your mental health. I didn’t listen to other reviews and now dearly regret it. I urge you to trust your gut if something feels off during your conversations, if it doesn’t feel like you’re being listened to. Throughout our sessions whenever I brought up concerns about our communication issues, or reasons why I reacted defensively to her questioning and struggled to get my thoughts out, there were never concessions made on her end or attempts to try a different approach. It was always my fault and something I needed to work on but I never received any direction or guidance for dealing with it, just judgement. I only continued to go for the past couple of years because the medication seemed to be working but I should not have overlooked this. At my last session I was at my breaking point.… Barely able to string a sentence together without crying, struggling with chronic pain, asking for guidance to get through a bad patch. While catching her up on what’s going on in my head she latched onto something I said about work but I didn't want that to be the focus of the session. I was already on edge because she was almost 20 minutes late. When I attempted to explain how I felt, that often I am cut off mid-sentence and that I feel assumptions are being made based on partial information, I was accused of "attacking" her and calling into question her professional capabilities. When I thought she was finally taking the time to listen to me, she followed up my thoughts with an exasperated, “oh, are you done?” When I was upset and told her I didn't appreciate being talked to this way, she accused me of wanting to be infantilized and mommy’d. I asked her to fill my meds because obviously our communication issues are causing me more pain, but she did not want to write a prescription without first giving me a piece of her mind. She kept picking up the pen and putting it down, telling me how she wants to help while in the same breath laughing about how it's difficult for her to want to help someone she doesn't have "warm fuzzy" feelings for. What medical professional could ever think it's appropriate to talk about their client like that?! Her professional ego took priority over my mental state in that moment and nothing I said satisfied her. It was condescending, passive aggressive, and cruel. There are no other words for this behavior. When I needed her to trust me, to give me the benefit of the doubt, she instead displayed a complete lack of empathy when I was at my most vulnerable. I would not sit through her scolding me and left without any plan of action in place to get me through this incredibly difficult patch, the only reason I had contacted her in the first place. I am lucky to have a strong support system and a general practitioner I wholeheartedly trust to help me through this difficult time but for anybody suffering and needing a therapist who can empathize and come up with action plans, I hope you consider my experience before placing your trust with Dr Casey.

Dr. Casey is very empathetic and kind. She literally called me to check up on how a med change was working for me. She gave me choices in my treatment, and made me feel like an actual participant in my care instead of just a patient. I also appreciate that she doesn’t just rely on pills for recovery, but she recommended some vitamins and lifestyle changes that are really helping me. She has a generous evening schedule (almost unheard of in medicine nowadays!), and has always been on time with my appointments. She does virtual visits (so nice when depression wants to keep you at home but you need help), and processes insurance. She has been a blessing to me. I highly recommend her.

This week, I managed to get out of bed each day, be a helpful colleague and mentor at work, eat healthy meals, and get a good amount of sleep each night. These seemingly simple things were things I couldn’t do on my own a couple of years ago at the worst of my depression. Needless to say, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Dr. Casey. I found Dr. Casey while struggling at a high-stress job. At the time, I didn’t recognize I was depressed, but instead thought of myself as lazy, incompetent, and irresponsible. Dr. Casey helped me put a name to all of the feelings of guilt, shame, and sadness I was experiencing—major depressive disorder. Once my illness had a name, it became something I could work towards improving. My family comes from a culture where mental illness carries a deep stigma. I appreciated Dr. Casey’s willingness to listen without judgment and understand the impact this had on my decision to seek professional help. When I was apprehensive about taking… medication, she took the time to listen to my concerns, explained how the medication worked, and talked me through what to expect and any possible side-effects. Once I started my treatment, she was fantastic at keeping in touch and checking in on me to make sure I was responding well to my medication. Through her close monitoring, we were able to find the right dose and combination of medications that treated my symptoms. Dr. Casey made sure she was available to me when I needed her, and was prompt to get back to me via phone or email if I had any questions or if I needed to make an appointment on short notice. Knowing that I was under the careful supervision of a professional gave me the peace of mind I needed to continue with my treatment. I felt that I had a strong advocate and confidante in Dr. Casey, when I had to deal with difficult situations at work. With great insight, compassion, and humor, Dr. Casey helped me through one of the most difficult periods of my life, and I will forever be thankful.

She has a great process, great communicator, and is truly empathetic which is hard to find in a lot of medical doctors. She has personally made my situation a lot better by listening, and giving advice on how to navigate certain problems I was faced with. I am sure she will continue to be a great resource of mine for the future as well. Thanks doc!

Dr. Casey has been my doctor for 6 years. I couldn't ask for a better doctor for these reasons: she listens carefully, is gentle with her recommendations and helps me come up with my own, and gives me perspectives that help me see possibilities I hadn't thought of before. I am grateful for the combination of holistic care and medication knowledge that she offers.

My Daughter went through 2 brain surgeries in 2016. The traumatic experience left her with the constant fear of medical costs, not knowing how to cope with day to day activities and prevented her from working. It was doubtful that she would be able to return and that even her home life would ever be "normal"again. If not for Dr. Jennifer Casey accepting her as a patient and working with her to diagnose the disorder and medically determining how to help my daughter, I doubt she would have ever been able to function as a responsible and loving Parent and be able to salvage her marriage and family. Because of Dr. Casey's efforts, my daughter is now back to work full time, she is working on her marriage and setting a great example for her children. Unless you, as a Parent, have ever faced a situation where you have had to watch your child spiral to a place, emotionally, that you fear they cannot come back from, you could never understand the feeling of hopelessness that I felt. I was… allowed, by my Daughter to sit in on the sessions and while Dr. Casey may not know it, watching and listening to her and seeing the way my Daughter responded to her and the treatments she provided gave me the comfort and strength I needed to be there for her. I could never find the words to express my profound gratitude, but I can honestly say that she is the reason my Daughter and I are doing so well today and I know with the continued visits and monitoring of my Daughter. that she will be able to live a full and well rounded life. No Parent could ask for more.
