Meet Dr. Garza
Dr. Jennifer J. Garza’s passion for excellence in orthodontics began in high school when she not only had braces but underwent jaw surgery in an attempt to correct a “bad overbite.” Her outcome was far from ideal and the experience was a life-changing event.
Driven by a need to determine why her orthodontic treatment and surgery failed, Jennifer began her undergraduate studies at the University of Denver while continuing to work as an orthodontic assistant. She was subsequently invited to attend the University Of Iowa College of Dentistry, where she graduated with honors. Jennifer completed her orthodontic training at New York University as Chief Resident. Upon graduation from NYU, she was awarded the Theodore L. Jerrold Memorial Award for achievement. This prestigious award is given to the outstanding orthodontic resident who, through clinical proficiency, clarity of thought, concern for patients’ welfare, and the desire to better the orthodontic profession, …most exemplifies the true essence of an orthodontist.
During her residency, she also enrolled in a two-year course, Advanced Education in Orthodontics, at the University of Detroit at Mercy. To ensure that what happened to her would never happen to anyone else, Dr. Garza thoroughly researched her own case. Her unique experiences as a patient, an assistant, and a dentist have shaped the philosophies she is determined to uphold in her practice.
“It’s not just about straight teeth. It’s about how the bite fits and functions with the jaw joint for stability.” explains Dr. Garza when describing her practice philosophy.
Dr. Garza took yet another step in post graduate education when she was one of the very few orthodontists selected worldwide to complete Level III status with the Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry. This training has prepared her to diagnose and treat not only common orthodontic problems, but also the most difficult and complex orthodontic, surgical, restorative, and TMJ cases.
Dr. Garza’s goals for her practice are to provide nothing less than long-term, stable orthodontic results for each of her patients (children and adults) that will provide natural beauty for a lifetime.
