From the moment I got my breast cancer diagnosis I knew having the best surgeon available was going to be a huge priority. I had to set aside the emotionality of my diagnosis long enough to research who I'd be trusting my life to. I had a list of breast cancer surgeons in RI to consider. Being an RN I thoroughly vetted each surgeon, looked into their training & career accomplishments. Dr. Jennifer Gass stood out with highest marks in every area of consideration. In my Nursing career I learned surgeons often do not have what you'd call an appealing bedside manner, it's just a thing about surgeons I'd come to expect. Dr Gass was such a lovely surprise; warm, personable & obviously deeply caring; I felt safe with her; I knew she'd see me through this and she has. She's never let me down, not even close. My family was knocked out by her when she came to the room to see me and they were all at bedside; she politely answered their questions. I feel blessed and fortunate that she was MY… surgeon; that's how I'll always think of her. She artfully tucked my incision and lymph nodes excision into the larger reconstruction scar, so my scarring isn't as extensive as it would've been with a lesser surgeon. She managed my pain and listened to my concerns; I was never made to feel un-considered or marginalized; I was never made to feel assembly-line-surgical. Often surgeons detach quickly and appear remote, disinterested once surgery is complete. Dr Gass's post-ops visits with me were like seeing a friend who wishes only the best for me. She hugged me (carefully! :) because we had good news from intraoperative pathology results. In my 30 years' of Nursing practice, I NEVER saw any surgeon do that. Breast Cancer is terrifying and very difficult to live with; there's a serious reason why it's called "battling breast cancer". If you have to have that battle, though, THIS is your Surgical Warrior Hero. I give her the highest recommendation possible.

This person has zero bedside manner, does not apologize for a wait of 1 1/4 hours (and I missed a job interview thanks to her), she stated that I didn't appear to have a problem after a cursory breast exam but wrote paperwork for a sonogram & mammogram. I would rather have cancer than see her again
