This was my first visit with this provider, to establish care. To be honest, I was disappointed with the visit and walked away feeling unheard. Dr. Gibson-Snyder seems like a kind and caring provider, however after asking if there was anything specific I'd like to discuss at the visit, she did not seem interested in a problem I've been dealing with for 2 years now and which for which I've fairly recently undergone surgery for without relief symptom relief. She did not ask detailed questions about this problem to try to understand the history of the problem, treatment to date, or current symptoms. She did not examine the affected body part. It seemed that because I had already seen a specialist for the issue, she did not feel obligated to investigate the problem any further. I had been very much wanting to get her medical opinion on the issue, as the diagnosis has been in question after the surgery I underwent 3 months ago did not address symptoms. I had hoped she might weigh in… with a medical opinion or at least share some thoughts. Rather, the first thing she said is "We don't always know what causes the pain". That seemed to be the extent of what she wanted to contribute to the situation. The visit seemed to be about her reviewing my current medications and diagnoses; typing in the computer; and then not telling me what any sort of assessment/plan was. Upon asking when I should return, she said in one year; despite a current issue ongoing for 2 years limiting my ability to walk more than 2 minutes, and at present lacking clear diagnosis. I would think, given that scenario, she would want to follow up with me sooner than a year to check in and move the evaluation forward. Lastly, before exiting the exam room, Dr. Gibson-Snyder advised me that she has over 2000 patients in her practice and that she does not respond to My Chart messages from patients. She specifically asked me not to message her through My Chart. She said if I have an issue I can call the clinic and schedule an appointment. I've not ever been told by any other provider at Providence not to use My Chart, or that they would not respond to messages through My Chart. Dr. Gibson-Snyder told me that all the providers at Broadway Internal Medicine feel similarly; however, my husband has been a patient of Dr. Szekely, and now Dr. Sheehan, and regularly messages his provider through My Chart and gets responses. I would like to continue working with this provider; and perhaps I caught her on a bad day; but the visit did not leave a great impression. I felt brushed off and I walked away feeling like she does not understand the current issue affecting my feet; nor did she offer any medical insight into the problem. The fact that she advised me to follow up in 1 year tells me she clearly didn't understand the issue at hand or how significantly it is affecting my life.If there is a policy against using My Chart to contact and be in touch with one's medical provider, Providence (on a more global level) should notify patients that this is the case. If having more than 2000 patients in one's patient panel means there will be no clinical thought put into the visit, then it would be better not to accept a new patient and rather refer to another provider who would have the time to assess the current problem and offer medical opinion/input.
