About Me

Ever wonder what job allows you to work with smart people and hand out stickers all day? I began working with the Kaiser Permanente in 1999 after completing my pediatrics residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Growing up and spending much of my first three decades in the South, I had been quite unaware of what made Kaiser Permanente so different. The longstanding commitment to preventive health, and the history of providing care to the workers who made this region a leader in shipbuilding and manufacturing won my respect right away. Before long, I realized the modern incarnation of Kaiser Permanente did much to facilitate collaboration among physicians of different specialties without as much of the paperwork and red tape that plagues so many other systems. While no system is perfect yet, I do believe Kaiser Permanente makes a strong commitment to adapt to pursue quality care relentlessly. As a pediatric hospitalist, helping sick children get well …brings me joy. The opportunity to learn from other specialists and collaborate with skilled nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, and social workers makes my job intellectually fulfilling as well.

When I'm not handing out stickers, I'm usually searching for a running path that avoids those San Francisco hills and trying to appreciate red wine and avocados as much as I appreciate sweet tea and fried chicken.
