Dr. Jennifer West Mccaul, MD

I'm a 42-year-old female & Dr. MCcaul's been my primary doctor for about six (6) years as of 2014. I've had multiple doctors through my life and MCcaul is one of the very best of them all (Dr. Carl Butch was my doctor over a decade ago and he was great too). McCaul has awesome patient-social skills but also really knows her field. It's hard finding a doctor who excels at both patient communication AND at the technical aspects of practicing medicine (often, a doctor may have great bedside manners but less than stellar physician skills, or alternatively a doctor may be exceptionally knowledgable while lacking communication skills. I believe it's a rare doctor who's great at both aspects of patient treatment, and Dr. MCcaul is one of those few multi-talented practitioners whom I both actually like, AND trust and respect.) I wish to note that I myself am an "advanced professional"--I'm not a medical doctor but I have an education that's almost as extensive, and I too work with clients. I… am a very critical person and, admittedly, I tend to find fault and judge others harshly. So, what I mean to say is that, because of my own profession and because of my critical nature, I believe it really does say a lot for me to offer such a positive review. And I have nothing but positive things to say about her as my physician. (I have never met her in any social capacity either, but rather only in a doctor-patient setting.) As Dr. McCaul's patient, I don't feel the need to downplay (or with hold) any information about myself, and I feel comfortable confiding in her even when it comes to otherwise embarrassing personal information that I might with hold from another doctor due to uncertainty as to whether to trust them and/or as to whether they will even bother listening to and utilizing the personal info I provide. (I think many folks can relate to the occasional tendency to feel too embarrassed to tell your doctor certain types of personal things...And I believe it has benefited my medical care by me feeling comfortable enough with McCaul to refrain from with holding or downplaying any bad habits and the such.) A doctor can't do her best if the patient with holds information, but it's often hard to have the courage to be 100% truthful about your habits when dealing with your doctor. Dr. MCcaul gives me the courage to be totally open because she has consistently demonstrated the following things: 1) She is non-judgmental 2) She remains objective as a professional should 3) She has down-to-earth communication skills and the ability to make you (well, me!) feel like she can relate with you (me) 4) She maintains an appropriate professional stance even while demonstrating a level of personal empathy 5) Her empathy doesn't interfere with her professional objectivity 6) She is really very smart and I trust that she knows her stuff 7) She takes extra steps and extra time where doing so might further help the patient (me) 8) She's awesome at explaining things 9) She's a great listener 10) She's fast and efficient without seeming rushed. In sum, I am glad to have her for my doctor.

Dr. Mccaul is a very good doctor, however getting in to see her is a nightmare. The office staff treat sick patients like they have no business coming in. They are more interested in making sure the scheduled appts. get taken care of first. Heaven forbid you get very sick and need to get in there quickly. I find the practice of making a person wait for a call back to get into see her very rude. We had to wait 24 hours once for a return call and then were told that we needed to come in, when we could have been told that the same day. They need to work on the office staff & procedures.

should not have to wait this long if so another doctor needs to see you. do not like the dr. and have found a new one. office manager does nothing about wait time

She is a wonderful doctor. Now if only the office staff was capable of doing their jobs! The phone line says normalbusiness hours are from 8:30-4:30 yet everytime i call before 10:30 I always get the answering service!
