Dr. Jenny Paola Rodriguez Alzate, MD

My family sought care with Dr. Jennifer Rodriguez in hopes of improving my mother's quality of life and mental health. My mother, who is 68 years old, was seen for approximately three months. During that time, her medication regimen was changed significantly, with multiple adjustments and combinations of medications. Unfortunately, instead of improving, her mental health declined considerably, and she began experiencing severe panic attacks. At my mother's final appointment, we were told that Dr. Rodriguez could no longer treat her because she was a geriatric psychiatrist and my mother was considered too young for her practice. This was especially confusing and frustrating because my mother's age was known from the beginning and was one of the primary reasons we intentionally sought care from a geriatric psychiatrist. As a result, our family has been left trying to manage a much more difficult situation than when we first sought treatment. My mother is now coping with panic attacks… and a medication regimen that has been challenging to understand and navigate while we search for a new provider. The geriatric population deserves compassionate, thoughtful, and consistent care. While I understand that not every treatment plan will be successful, I believe patients and their families also deserve clear communication and continuity of care, particularly when significant medication changes have been made. This experience was deeply disappointing and fell far short of the level of care I expected from Penn Medicine.
