Dr. Jenny Rebecca Speranza, MD

I have pelvic floor dysfunction and Dr. Speranza knows this area well. She gave me the tests I needed to move forward when no other doctors knew what I was talking about.

Dr. Speranza sees the whole patient. She is compassionate and goes above and beyond. As a patient advocate, I do not receive compensation for referrals or reviews. But, this doctor blew me away by her compassion and dedication.

After one visit than making a second I was asked before any tests were done if I wanted a colostomy bag. Really???? not going back there.

Traipses in the treatment room with "Cowboy Boots", NP, and what I thought was a med student. This UN-introduced person finally admitted she was the ATTORNEY FOR THE URMC! A clear violation of my patient rights!! Dr S performed a procedure that left me exposed to this attorney [How humiliating!] The NP did all the talking. After 6 mos of imaging and metric procedures. I was released from care that last day with no treatment or clear understanding of my condition. I overheard her say to the attorney...."wasn't my area anyways." She tacked a number of inaccurate diagnosis' to my record to validate her getting paid for all of her "toys" in her physiology lab! This is far from the URMC's mission statement "Meliora ever better"...try ever abusive. Stay as far away from this practitioner as possible.

a doctor who knows her stuff and is personable is so hard to find.

I found the staff to be pleasant and cooperative. I was impressed by the level of concern for my well being and my understanding of the tests I was having and answered all my questions about the sacral stimulator.

Have a chronic condition & was referred to Dr. S. Saw NP who put me on laxatives, said it would do the trick, & I wouldn't need a follow-up. Having tried laxatives before & knowing how little they'd helped, I insisted on a follow-up. After 4 visits of adjusting laxatives and bran, things were better, but did not address the underlying problem. NP said the only other option was a colostomy! I again described my complaints, she did another rectal exam, & said I had a rectocoele. Sent met to URMC Pelvic Health. Dr. did complete pelvic floor eval. & said no rectocoele, only minor pelvic floor weakness, & referred me back to Dr. S. First visit, Dr. S obviously hadn't read my chart 'cause mistook me for another patient she had ordered a colonoscopy on. NP had to fill her in on why I was there. She ordered multiple tests and Specialty PT. PT confirmed only minor pelvic floor weakness & after 3 visits, said I was doing well with exercises, and sent her final report to Dr. S. Followup… meeting with Dr. S, she didn't understand why PT felt I was done (obviously hadn't read the report), said PT must not have understood her instructions, & ordered NP to call PT & tell them again what she wanted them to do for me. Also said PT & other Dr. were both wrong, saying I had complete pelvic floor weakness and recommended an ostomy. When I asked how an ostomy and colostomy differed, she asked me how I knew what a colostomy was!!! Then said today, ostomies were much more advanced, she had several patients very happy with theirs, & only restriction was not to lift more than 15 lb! When I told her I lifted more than every day, she wanted to know why!!! Told me to increase laxatives until stools were liquid, return to PT, consider ostomy, and come back in 8 weeks. Instead, I had all my test results sent to another colorectal surgeon for 2nd opinion. He corrected part of the problem with 3 minor, quick & painless, in-office procedures in his office, but had to continue laxatives (at a lower dose). Said an ostomy would never have occurred to him for treatment of my complaints! consider an ostomy for my condition!

I saw Dr. Sp. for a very very painful condition. Her office was very nice. Had a procedure but immediately after had severe problems. Her NP refused to let me come in to see her and said I had to wait 8 weeks. Another Dr. got involved and i did see her but her bedside manner was terrible. Aftercare awful. NP and Dr Sp. was cold and NP awful. Do not see her.

She is fantastic, saved my life during a bowel obstruction. All of the stoma nurses and gastroenterology providers tell me the ileostomy she gave me is one of the nicest ones they've seen. She can be a little rushed when talking to patients but that's probably because she is very busy and has a lot of people to take care of. She still answers all my questions and is very sweet!
