Concerned Patient Advocate — Emergency Room Experience at Baptist Health Paducah I want to share my experience from the ER at Baptist Health Paducah early this morning (July 12, 2025), hoping it pushes for better care. My daughter came in with severe lower abdominal and back pain, abdominal swelling, and sweating. She has a Mirena IUD and has had three natural births — she said this pain was worse than labor. At 4:05 a.m., the ER doctor (Dr. Jeremy Helphenstine) was dismissive and said, “I don’t deal with IUDs.” No OB/GYN consult was offered or requested. They wanted to do a CT scan but did not prioritize the necessary pelvic ultrasound to check the IUD or pelvic infection. No real pain management or specialist care was provided. This is unacceptable. If you’re coming to the ER with a serious gynecological concern, you deserve to be treated with respect and get the right tests and specialist care — not dismissed. I’m sharing this to hold the hospital accountable and urge them to… improve their ER protocols for women’s health emergencies.
