Dr. Jerry Bob Blacklock, MD

My visit was about 35 years ago. This neurosurgeon was, and probably is the best of the best. I was in surgery for quite a few hours. My spinal cord was almost paper thin. He took bone from my hip and put in my spine so I did not have to have metal. That was a great job. Now, at 78, my spine is old and wearing, but never had a single issue with the surgery he performed. Very caring and extremely knowledgeable in his field. I wish him the best and to say "You did a great job Doc". I'm still around!

Very knowledgeable. Very nice. He has worked on several astronauts...some that didn't think they would ever be able to go back into space. Wouldn't recommend going anywhere else but to him.

Dr. Blackcock treats his patient as intelligent people. He is straightforward and not condescending. He has a sense of humour and a passion for excellent medical care. He is regarded as one of the best spinal surgeons in Houston.

He is very direct and treated me like an intelligent person who could understand what surgery would relieve. Not at all patronizing. Loves surgery and the relief he gives patients. He despises hacks.

Dr. Blacklock prevented me from being paralyzed

I had a great experience and successful surgery. I was able to avoid a much more complicated fusion as an option proposed elsewhere.

I spent two months waiting for an appointment for chronic lumbar pain. I waited over 45 minutes to meet the doctor. I first met his fellow, Dr. Staub, who listened well and was thorough with his explanations and reasoning. Dr. Blacklock did not have any productive recommendations for controlling the pain and finding a long term solution other than to lose weight. In fact he recommended bariatric surgery. I am 32 and have had weight problems for half my life. In 16 years, you think I wouldn't have looked into that already? He didn't listen about my past - I don't need bariatric surgery, but I do need to focus back on my nutrition (I had lost over 170 lbs naturally before regaining about half). He was rude and it was evident that he judged me from my chart as opposed to asking questions about my case. I do not recommend him. I've seen 4 other doctors for my condition and of all 4, he is the worst. Don't waste your time with the medical center if you want to be valued as a patient.

Dr. Blacklock is an excellent diagnostician and technician. He did my surgery 17 yrs ago so he was my choice when I had new problems. He and I reviewed the MRI together, he showed me the problem and how he would fix it. He and his staff were very responsive to minimizing my pain and suffering until my surgery date. My pain dropped dramatically after surgery. I did not have to return to the office but his APN was very responsive to my e-mailed questions. My only complaint is how long it takes to get in to see him. I think very highly of him and his skill. I have recommended him several times.

I took my mother for an appointment with Dr. Blacklock. She had severe pain in her leg and needed a cane to walk. Dr. Blacklock told her to get a MRI done, which was scheduled for two days later (for Friday). The nurse told us that Dr. Blacklock would call her with the results either Friday afternoon or the following Monday. My mother waited and waited for a call. After Monday, she called the office, left ,messages and NO ONE returned her call. Finally, the following Friday, my mother reached someone in his office. The lady said "Dr. Blacklock does not call regarding MRIs if the patient does not need surgery". How is the patient suppose to know the results and what needs to be done for the severe pain?????? Dr. Blacklock does not have the courtesy to call his patients back or even have his nurse or staff return calls to give results. I can't believe a doctor ignores patients. What kind of doctor is that????? My mother will NEVER go back to him and will NEVER recommend him… to anyone. VERY dissatisfied!

He is a star in the neurosurgery field. I have taken the sworn testimony in neurosurgeons in hundreds depositions and reviewed report and reviewed records and results of even more. Dr. Blacklock sets the standards.
