Dr. Jerry Donald Hyer JR., MD

Dr. Hyer was my father’s pulmonologist while in the hospital at Merit Wesley. We were there for 2 weeks and only had 2 conversations. In one of those conversations, his suggestion was to just take my father, who was fully conscious and able to communicate and think for himself, off the ventilator and make him comfortable and try to do nothing to make him better. After we finally got my father out of the ICU, Dr. Hyer and his team never followed up and denied my father the Bipap machine that he needs because he failed to communicate effectively with the respiratory team. I would never recommend this doctor or Merit Wesley Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS to anyone. If it weren’t for our family staying with my father every second he was there and advocating for him every minute, he would not be here
