Dr. Jerry Shapiro, MD

I recently had the pleasure of being seen by Dr Shapiro who truly impressed me with his expertise and commitment to patient care. From the moment I arrived at the clinic, I could tell that he takes great pride in his work and is passionate about helping his patients. What really stood out to me was the time he took to listen to my concerns and answer all of my questions. He made sure I felt comfortable and understood every step of the process. I never felt rushed or like my concerns were not important. The level of knowledge and skill that this medical provider possesses is truly impressive. It is evident that he stays up to date!

I have never been so traumatised after leaving a doctor as I was after my first appointment with Dr. Shapiro. He was incredibly pompous. It was as though I was on conveyer belt...ok next. He was rote and completely unsympathetic to the issues at hand. I could go on .... and on. He may have been doing this a long time and obviously he's bored and only cares about $$$$$. I had a bad reaction to the treatment and called his office to let them know and they couldn't get me off the phone fast enough and they did not ask me how I was feeling or did I want to speak with a nurse or the doctor or anything. literally almost hung up on me. There are other doctors out there, many of them. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY on Dr. Shapiro. He is definitely not worth it.

After spending thousands of dollars on painful hair treatments with four different physicians , I was fortunate to find Dr. Jerry Shapiro who successfully treated my Alopecia, saving my hair as well as my self image.I can’t tell you how relieved I’ve been since meeting Dr. Shapiro ! Not only is he a brilliant professional , he is also extremely , caring ,empathetic , patient and humorous. He has been a Godsend in my life . I will be forever grateful to him . Laurie T.

Do NOT make an appt. with this doctor. I initially called his office to set up an appt. for hair loss. I was told that he charges a $1,500 consultation fee. To schedule an appt. I needed to make a downpayment of $750. Against my better judgment, I gave the receptionist my credit card info. The next day I looked up his reviews and was horrified. I called back and canceled the appt. The following day I received a call from the office that they were having TROUBLE giving me BACK my downpayment (really?). They left a number (with instructions to press option 5) for the Billing Dept. I immediately called the number and was told I needed to talk with the BILLING DEPT. I said I thought I was calling the billing dept? They said they were unable to help me. I called back 2 more times! That's a total of FOUR times - all with the same result. Finally, I get my Credit Card Bill and there as clear as day was the $750 CHARGE. Luckily, I used American Express because I was suspicious all along.… I immediately, called AmEx and complained about the charge and I will dispute this. But BEWARE...the office receptionists are liars and you will be entering into a nightmare! 0 Rating

He may have the medical chops, but he behaves like a throw back know-it-all physician from the 1970's. Don't you dare question anything he says: He has the MD, and he'll make sure you know it. This is New York City. Nobody needs to put up with this medical God-complex nonsense. We have choices. Suggest you do some homework and find equally qualified doctors who don't treat patients like foolish children.

First, I want to say, when you read some of the other reviews, it's important to understand that hair loss can sometimes be difficult to diagnose and depending on what you have, it can be tough to treat. Sometimes, there is not much even the best doctor can do to stop the loss. Because of his experience focusing on hair conditions, seeing Dr. Shapiro gave me the best chance of getting an accurate diagnosis (it's taken me 2 years and 4 doctors) and successful treatment. During our appointment, he was extremely thorough, focused, and pleasant. I did not feel at all pressured into his recommended approach, and in fact, he made sure I was comfortable when he increased the dosage of a prescription. When it came time to give me injections, he was empathetic to my pain. He also did a very good job of considering my other health conditions.

I, too, like other reviewers, was led to believe that Shapiro was an expert in the field of hair loss. After nearly 1 1/2 years under his care, during which I paid nearly $15,000 on visits, "consultations," and PRP (to no avail), my hair loss has worsened. Under no circumstance would I proffer a recommendation for Shapiro. Save your money and find another hair specialist in the city.

I would give him 5 stars in every way. Spent an hour with us. Was very thorough, told us exactly the issues and actually ordered meds for us on the spot and also did bloodwork. Would highly recommend

Did a fine job treating the problem. Condition cured within weeks after years of suffering from symptoms.

I was lead to believe Dr. Shapiro was an expert in the field of hair loss, however he did what all derms recommend, Minoxidil and Propecia, and wasn't able to help me solve the peristent shedding I've had since taking Accutane 5 years ago. If you want to spend $800 to hear what a derm can tell you for free, then go right ahead.
