Dr. Jesse Reed Gutnick, MD

Incompetency and poor communication are the key words to avoid this surgeon.

I am a nurse and have always found him to be helpful and I have to guess that some who have had bad experiences may have caught him on a bad day or may have not been following his recommendations. The whole Bariatric team at Upstate community campus is responsive to concerns and questions. I entered the program with much prior education on the process, but I am also a person with many conditions and I have seen my share of physicians and nurses with attitude issues in my career but I have no complaints. I only reserve a star because my surgery is yet to come. I have no reservations about this practice and would recommend them.

My first encounter with Dr. Gutnick was as a result of an emergency situation. He was very professional in explaining all of the testing required to diagnose my condition as well as the emergency surgery resulting from the tests. Dr. Gutnick also performed my followup surgery 7 months later as planned. I always found him very thorough in explaining every aspect of my medical care as well as answering all of my questions. He did not hesitate to inform me of the various complications that were possible as well as how he would proceed if any should occur. I was very satisfied with his care and always left his office with much optimism!

Dr. Gutnick is an excellent physician and Will spend the time his patients need to explain things to them. He genuinely cares about his patients and has a way of explaining things in terms that are easier for his patients to understand, as well as in technical terms for those who understand it. If you only read the negative comments on here and choose another physician you will be missing out on a top notch doctor with excellent results.

Treated me like I was ignorant. Minimized my concerns. Spent barely 10 minutes with me. Was condescending. I will never go back to this practice.

If I could give this doctor 0 stars I would. Worst bedside manner I've experienced. Was rude and degrading. Just had an organ removed and this physician couldn't have been less empathic. If you have a choice I suggest not choosing him. I'm thankful I didn't and he was just a resident/fellow of my very competent and nice surgeon.
