Dr. Jessica K Mclane, DO

Most immature doctor I have ever encountered. Left the room mid-conversation while I was speaking to her and spread rumors about me to the entire staff.

I recently wrote a review entitled a doctor with no compassion about Dr. Mclane. I made my opinion very clear and spoke with the management staff at the hospital. As a chronic migraine sufferer who has only been able to use narcotic medication after trying every other migraine abortive treatment and experiencing horrible side effects since 2009 I am a firm believer in sticking up for myself as a patient due to the opioid crisis and many doctors' hesitation with my treatment plan. I had to go to the ER again this evening and had a completely different experience with Dr. Mclane in the best way. She could have ignored me and left me waiting. The hospital was buzzing with patients. I had an updated letter from my regular neurologist to show her, but she was very professional and treated me courteously and quickly. I will fight for myself but I am also one to give credit where credit is due and second chances are always an option. I would like to take this opportunity to correct my… previous write up of Dr. Mclane.

I have been going to the Emergency Room at Pascack for over 5 years when I need IV treatment for acute chronic migraine attacks that are accompanied by violent vomiting and I cannot hold down my oral pain medication or any antiemetics. I have tried every medication under the sun and am on Topamax as a preventive, but as all migraine sufferers know, preventives do not eradicate the migraines. I have always had wonderful experiences with the staff at Pascack from the nurses, to the PAs and doctors. I carry proof from my treating neurologist that explains that I cannot take steroids or other migraine abortive treatments because I get terrible side effects from them. There are times when I won’t have to go to the ER for months but then other times, such as recently, after having a baby and starting a business that has placed me under a lot of stress and life is extra chaotic, when my ER visits become more frequent. A few months ago I visited Pascack ER and met Dr. Mclane. My first… encounter with her, after explaining my situation she curtly responded “so opiates are the only answer for you, that doesn’t make any sense.” I explained that the preventives only take me so far and yes, when I cannot hold my oral pain medication down because I can’t stop vomiting, I have to come to the ER. She reluctantly treated me. The second encounter I had with her, I had to wait so long (since it’s an ER, which I completely understand and do not fault her with) my migraine was so bad I had to ask for a second dose of the pain medicine. I heard the nurse ask her and her response was nasty and she stated, “absolutely not this is ridiculous.” On my most recent visit, after showing her proof that I had spoken with my neurologist a few days prior, she accused me of trying to “hospital shop” because I had been to Englewood hospital three days earlier (which I had and was not trying to hide, the only reason I went there was because I was staying with my cousin who lives across from Englewood hospital, which I would have happily told Dr. Mclane if she had asked me). She told me she would have to reach out to my doctor’s office because she believed my migraines were rebounding. I tried to explain that since being diagnosed in 2009, I have been told by all of my treating neurologists over the years that as long as I go 24 hours without a headache, it is not rebounding. She became impatient with me and was very rude and left the room. She came back a while later to tell me she allegedly spoke with a doctor on call from my practice who said I could not have any more pain medication. I left the hospital because I knew without being able to be given that particular part of my medication cocktail, I would get no relief. After leaving the ER, I spent the entire night vomiting, the entire next day in a dark room with ice packs all over my head wishing I could just fall asleep and the following day the migraine pain increased again. When I reached out to my doctor’s office the next day, they could not provide me with any information that Dr. Mclane had called or whom she had spoken to. A few days later the pain was so unbearable I called the Pascack ER to check which doctor was working that day to make sure it was not Dr. Mclane. They told me it was not. I was relieved and went. When I arrived and was taken into the back I saw Dr. Mclane staring at me as I walked by and when I got to the room I asked the nurse if she was the treating physician to which she replied yes and I kindly thanked her and left. Whoever I had called prior to arriving must have had the wrong information. Dr. Mclane smugly watched me walk out of the ER, throw up bag in hand, gossiping with the nurses about me. I felt broken and humiliated. I felt like I was being judged by her as though I was a drug seeker. I have never experienced a doctor with such little compassion. I love Pascack but I will have to resort to other emergency rooms for migraine abortive treatment if she is there. I am very sad about it. To feel so humiliated for having a chronic health issue is not right and I will not be going back to Pascack unless I know with 100% certainty that I will not be seen by Dr. Mclane. I suggest anyone else in my situation, with a chronic migraine or other pain condition that needs IV treatment do the same.

Horrible, no patient understanding. Nasty Attitude. Overdosed me on narcotic. Awful experience.
