Dr. Jessica Hwae Jung Ryu, MD

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Jessica after being referred by my primary physician, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. Upon entering the room, Dr. Jessica expressed concerns about the accuracy of my MRI scans and immediately stated that surgery would not be an option for my knee condition, without conducting a physical examination or discussing alternatives first. I was surprised by her initial approach and questioned her decision given the unclear MRI results. Dr. Jessica did apologize and offered to arrange another MRI, which was appreciated, but it felt like a reactive measure rather than a proactive approach to my care. Throughout the appointment, I felt rushed and that my concerns were not fully addressed, which was frustrating especially after waiting three months for this appointment. Before concluding, Dr. Jessica suggested I seek a second opinion, acknowledging that perhaps her approach and my healthcare needs might not be the best… match. Overall, I left the appointment feeling confused about my next steps and disappointed with the level of care provided. I believe there is room for improvement in how patient concerns and care options are handled.

Dr. Ryu repaired a car accident injury in my left shoulder. I'd been grappling with chronic pain for 5 years. She set expectations incredibly well. Thanks to her excellent communication, I knew to expect a long road, but to also be optimistic for a good outcome - without a silver bullet. Dr. Ryu truly listens & sees her patients holistically. When a pre-existing condition caused some strange symptoms she organized my care with another department to make sure I was educated & thoroughly examined. The surgery went perfectly - my chronic pain is gone & my shoulder is stable. When I experienced extreme anxiety before the surgery, Dr. Ryu showed compassion & helped me calm down. I've felt so seen & cared for under her expertise.
