I just returned from an office visit with Dr. Park, and I would leave ZERO stars if I could. The visit with Dr. Park herself was fine, she was very patient with our questions and seemed attentive to my mother's health, and the nurse that assisted her was incredibly sweet. However, the office manager is the rudest, most unprofessional woman I have ever dealt with. After finishing with my mother's checkup, we went to the front desk to see if anything else was needed from us.
There, the receptionist/office manager rudely and condescendingly told us we owed money from a visit TWO YEARS ago. My mother said that a rep from our insurance company AND someone at Dr. Park's office confirmed two years ago that we didn't owe anything. I informed the office manager this, and she responded by rolling her eyes and loudly talking down to us. She even laughed at my mother's response, and said mockingly that "the person you spoke to doesn't exist, I am the office manager." (we didn't give a name so… not sure how she could make that claim?)
I asked her to call the insurance company to resolve this since we'd already spoken to them, so she does. We end up waiting for another 15 minutes while she's on this call, and I can only hear her side of the conversation: "But are you sure? She doesn't owe anything? No, can you please check again? Please check again." This was incredibly frustrating. She already got an answer, and she was wasting our time being petty about this. Before she got off the call, I said "if they do say we owe money, could you please have them say it on speakerphone so we can hear it?" she responds by rolling her eyes and turning her back to me! Two minutes later, she hangs up the phone and says to us, "They made a mistake. they told you and our office the wrong thing, which is why we told you two years ago you didn't owe anything. Now we know they made a mistake, so you owe us money." I couldn't believe it. I asked her "why didn't you put the agent on speakerphone?" she just shook her head and kept repeating "they made a mistake, you owe us money." Fed up, I said to her "Okay, so to clarify, the insurance company messed up, and told BOTH OF US the wrong thing 2 years ago. You were talking down to us as if we were liars, but now you're acknowledging that the insurance company messed up here, right? And that there was someone from your office that signed off on that, right? Because you accused us of making that person up." She refused to make eye contact with me at this point, and just kept rolling her eyes. I told her I'd like to hear it from the insurance agent myself before paying because frankly, based on what I heard, I didn't trust her. She tells me to call them myself, and all of a sudden wasn't insistent on us paying immediately anymore.
I suspect that they didn't give her the answer she wanted from them, and she didn't want to admit to that. I will follow up with them myself but, whatever the case may be, that type of unprofessional, rude, mocking behavior deserves no place in an office, let alone a MEDICAL office. I was horrified by her treatment and I no longer feel comfortable having my mother go there unaccompanied. My mother is ESL, and I could see this office manager bullying her like she tried to do when I was there.
I plan on calling the office again to talk to Dr. Park about how her office manager treated us, because I think she should be aware. Reading other reviews, it seems like this behavior is a pattern, which is a pity because everyone else in the office, including Dr. Park, was so warm and professional. I will update my review following that conversation.
