He had a kind smile, and a reassuring look to my questions, that told me, even though he looks my age or younger...(I was 30 a the time)...you are in good hands, lol...then I woke up...and the surgery was over and I was in recovery. He called me the night before the surgery, we covered everything I was to not eat or drink before surgery past a certain time. He answered my questions, like can I still brush my teeth...you know, the questions you hate asking a doctor for fear that it may sound stupid...but he made me feel like it was a typical question, as any other question you would ask the doctor that was putting you under for 3 hours. I was freaking out when I realized; him and the other doctors must all be around 30....I'm sorry, but it freaked me out a bit, cause I feel young, especially in my career and how others view experience vs experience + education vs education + on the job training/residency. All my doctors, including the nurse's had to be my age; 30 or around about, and it… scared me, and I didn't realize this until that morning of the surgery before they took me back. Dr. Patel came in and made me feel at ease and then the next thing I knew it was all over. So, if I had to rate my experience and expectations of what an anesthesiologist should do for their patients, I would say he did pretty darn good and exceeded my expectations and this was my 4th time being put under in my life in which I'm comparing the experience.
