Jihad Abdelgadir

I grew up in Sudan as the oldest of six children in a family where hard work, responsibility, and looking out for others were simply part of everyday life. These values led me to medicine and sparked my interest in neurosurgery during medical school, when I saw patients with serious conditions who had limited access to surgical treatment. I was struck by how profoundly an operation could change the course of a person's life and was equally drawn to the complexities of the brain and its blood vessels. The combination of supporting people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, solving complex problems, and continually learning is what I love most about this field. Today, I specialize in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery. Because I am trained in both open microsurgery and endovascular treatment, I often have several different ways to approach the same problem. I do not believe that every aneurysm needs a catheter-based procedure, every tumor needs an operation, or …that there is one "best" approach for every patient. My job is to evaluate the problem, think critically about all options, and recommend the best path forward while ensuring my patients understand what is happening and why. Diagnoses such as brain aneurysms and skull base tumors can be frightening, so I take the time to review imaging, explain options in plain language, and answer questions. My goal is for patients and their families to leave our visit feeling confident that they understand their diagnosis and have a shared treatment plan they are comfortable with. Outside of the hospital, I am a wife and mother and spend most of my free time with my family. I also enjoy traveling and finding opportunities to explore new places with my children.
