Dr. Jill M Marjama-Lyons, MD

I understand she is the only movement disorder specialist which doesn't say a lot for NM and could be the reason many with complicated health issues are leaving NM for AZ where medical doctors are plentiful, plus the fact that AZ doesn't charge tax on medical. Dr. Lyons spends a good amount of time with my father, however, her clincal notes are duplicates from one appointment to another with no changes; it seems she is not looking to try different things such as clinical trials or new medications.

I saw Dr. Lyons at the University of Florida Research hospital. My insurance at the time deemed her the best in her field of medicine. She was able to diagnose me almost immediately and I have since had very little seizure activity, and I saw her in 1998. Being on the right medications for my disorder was the problem, and I was able to get the medication approved by insurance after I saw her. It was very expensive at the time, and she was able to convince them that I needed this medication. I would see her again, if the need arises. She is in New Mexico now, and I would absolutely travel there to see her.

This is the strangest doctor we've ever gone to. Obviously, by the way she runs her office, the emphasis is not on patient care. She has no staff what so ever. She gives you her cell phone number for contact/scheduling. The message on her cell phone is obnoxious stating to make your message brief as she , in essence, doesn't have the time to devote to listening to your messages. My wife has DBS implants and Marjama used to be the only show in town. We opted for no further adjustments as her programming had no beneficial effects what so ever. I see that many people praise the work she does. In our opinion, she did absolutely nothing to improve my wife's quality of life. She makes you carry your own medicial records to and from each appointment as she has no place to store them, in my opinion this tells me she's more intrested in putting every penny of your money in her pocket than she is in giving quality healthcare. If I could have submitted zero stars as our rating - I would have.

Dr. Marjama-lyons is a good doctor but runs the whole show......apoointments and all without any staff. Has patients keep their own medical records, which of course, is problematic with Parkinson patients. She is often hurried when seeing me and I feel she is often distracted.

Very knowledgeable and unlike my last neologist she actually listens and cares about her patients
