Dr. Joan Marie Dahmer, MD

Joan Dahmer should not be practicing oncology. She told me without the PET scan results in her hand, just verbal speculation, she told me I had "stage 4 liver cancer and there is no cure." She sent me for liver biopsy which didn't need to be done, I DO NOT HAVE LIVER CANCER!!!!!!! You can contact me all day long and I will say the same thing. She is horrible.

My first two cancer doctors were informative but kind of rude and dismissive of my symptoms and concerns. Dr. Dahmer seemed friendlier than the first two ... they were on the "young" side ... and I will see her again. She has some sort of physical ailment herself. I would guess some type of arthritis. I am willing to see her again and have another talk with her.

I found Dr. Dahmer to be inaccessible, dismissive & condescending. Expect a cold shoulder to lean on & forget about return calls or messages on your patient portal. My first & hopefully last experience with such a doctor.

One of the most important things to me, is that a doctor listens to her patience and Dr. Dahmer really listens to my issues without making me feel rushed.

My first appointment Dahmer was 2 hours late so I left without seeing her. 3 days later I had a 2nd appointment and when I checked in they told me she was already 45 minutes behind. I didn't wait to find out how long. I wasted 3 hours driving to and from her office. What other business can treat customers like this and stay in business?

I was not going to write a review, until I read the last one. My observation is just the opposite about AZCCC and Dr. Joan Dahmer. The medical assistant turnover is high or too mobile doctor to doctor. The front office seems to be disorganized and overstaffed. Appointment times are never met by an average of an hour. Some nurses in the large recliner room where all the patients get their IV's vary in degree of competency, care, patient dignity, protecting your privacy, and just being polite. As far as the nursing staff...Crystal is the best and I found Lori to be...well...frankly curt and judgmental with her coworkers about the patients. I have frequently felt like changing facilities and my family has pressured me to do so when they witness the above. I have not been able to for one reason....Dr. Joan Dahmer...she is detail oriented, caring, competent, highly recommended by her peers and my PCP (I have had other Doctors in speciality fields indicate she is extremely detailed… and thorough in her transcription of patient notes and letters sent to them on their patients). I have received both hospital visits and after hour calls from her that left my spouse and I with the opinion she really cares about her patients. When your facing cancer this helps you sleep at night. I just wish she would get her support staff in line or change them, and my family trust my judgment to stay with Dr. Dahmer regardless of her support staff lacking so much!

I have been diagnosed with anemia and have blood drawn every three months. I am very proactive when it comes to my health. When I ask how low they will let me get before they consider an infusion, she blows off the question and says I'm "fine." That doesn't answer my question. Then, yesterday, she HUNG UP on me after I asked this question again. REALLY? What kind of doctor does that? Is it a secret that she can't tell me? I don't want to be deathly pale before they say I need an infusion. In the process of finding another hema. Don't recommend Dr. Dahmer.

Dr Dahmer has treat both me and my husband. She is very caring. Thanks to her agressive treatment of my husband's cancer in 2003, he is still on this earth. I have systemic lupus that probably would have never been diagnosed if she hadn;t taken the time to talk to me and ask questions. I would recomend her to anyone who needed care for cancer or a hemotology issue.

I find Dr. Dahmer to e caring and open with me and she takes time with me and tries to answer my questions. She seems genuinly interested in my condition. I am pleased with her attitude.

I could not find another doctor fast enough after being subjected to "treatment" of my cancer. I was scared when I found out I had cancer and I asked alot of questions. She was the only doctor I EVER had that argued with me, told me not to worry about what chemo she was giving me, made me scared of her and mad at her all at the same time. She talked down to me, she was rude, and I didn't feel I was getting safe care. I brought a family member to an appt. to see if I was delusional or if she was truly the problem. They told me to transfer that day. When I told her I was finding another doctor she wrote a letter to a prospective doctor in the area telling them I was a non-compliant patient and black-balling me from their care. WHO DOES THAT??? I found a wonderful doctor (20 miles from my home) who changed my entire treatment plan, treated me with respect and answered my questions without making me feel dumb. When you are facing a life or death medical situation, she is not the doctor… that I would ever use for my personal care.
