With a unique background in art—she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Parsons School of Design—Dr. Joan C. Laura takes a new approach to cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry allows her to combine her talents and interests, bringing them together in a new art form: creating beautiful smiles for her patients.
"What I like best is seeing those beautiful smiles because that tells me that along with that smile, there is a more positive self-image and more self-confidence,” says Dr. Laura. “People that have never smiled before because they were embarrassed or ashamed of their teeth leave my office smiling for the first time in their lives! What a great feeling for both my patient and myself."
The daughter of a dentist, Dr. Laura explored a career in the art and fashion industries before deciding to follow in her father's footsteps. After spending several years there, she knew she wanted to help make people feel good about themselves. In the fashion …industry, you deal daily with beautiful, self-confident people . . . but in dentistry, she could make people feel beautiful and self-confident for the first time. Soon, she began practicing by his side and they practiced together for several years.  Now Dr. Laura offers family dentistry from a family of dentists!
Everyone is welcome in Dr. Laura’s office. When an elderly patient comes in with no teeth, she gives him or her natural-looking new dentures that fit properly and comfortably. That patient leaves with beautiful new teeth as well as renewed pride, dignity, and a positive outlook. Cases such as this are why Dr. Laura truly enjoys her profession—contributing this kind of new self-confidence is rewarding not only to her patients, but to her as well.
Because of the technical skills and artistry needed to give an exceptional aesthetic result, many dentists choose not to offer cosmetic dentistry to their patients. Dr. Laura is the exception. She truly cares about her patients and will treat just about anyone. She welcomes challenging cases and encourages those in need of dental work to visit her promptly. She is committed to high-quality dentistry and using a gentle touch when treating her patients.
