Dr. Joanne N. Knapik, MD

Dr. Knapik was my doctor from childhood up until I was 16. I am now almost 21, so it’s been a while. I had reoccurring tonsillitis and saw her at LEAST two times a year from the ages of 13-16. Every time I saw her she would just give me a strep test, sometimes not even doing that. It always came back negative of course. She told me it would pass every single time and that I didn’t need them out and never gave me any medication for it. The last time I saw her, exactly four years ago today, she had me fill out a mental health questionnaire that all doctors have their patients fill out. I answered honestly, and she had diagnosed me with depression after giving me a longer questionnaire to fill out. I used to self harm, and that was a question on the form. My mother knew this, and was always there for me. She was the one person who really supported me and made me feel needed. So, while she had a psychologist come in and talk to me, she stood outside the door with my mom and the next thing… I heard was yelling, only from her end. I never heard my mom speak once. They were out there for probably 15 minutes. She degraded my mom, telling her she was a horrible parent for not doing anything (which she did). My mom came back in crying. And it is hard to make my mom cry. Then I was put under the care of Dr. Glossin at the Woodstock location. When I went to see her, she referred me immediately to a throat specialist and got me in right away. When I saw him, he told me I needed my tonsils out IMMEDIATELY and that he hadn’t seen any tonsils that bad in a really long time. He said they were so bad that if anyone had sneezed near me, I would get sick from that. *Moral of the story, if you want misdiagnosed treatment, yelling (especially if you’re a parent), and being talked down to, Dr. Knapik is your lady. I’m honestly convinced she just does that so you’re forced to keep coming back and she’ll get a larger paycheck. *

We saw Dr. Knapik ok since our pediatrician Dr. Redlich was out of the office. I was a little weary due to the ratings online, but she definitely proved them wrong. She is a very matter-of-fact woman. She never made me or my daughter feel bad in any way. She diagnosed my daughter with an ear infection within moments of being with us. She also commented that my daughter has sensitive and dry skin, and now I will be giving her some better quality lotion. Next time Dr. Redlich is unavailable I will be going to Dr. Knapik.

The difference between her and Dr Bernardi is night and day. She is not respectful of your time. It seems she isn't on the up to date on anything. She doesn't seem to have any opinions of her own. It almost feels as though whatever the medical establishment tells her to do, she does. She seems to be unsure about a lot. I don't even know why Dr Bernardi lets himself be associated with her. We saw him once and he's the only Dr I want my kids to see.

My daughter and I went in for leg pain today. She isn't our regular doc, but I wanted her to be seen. She examined her and then said to monitor her for a few weeks. I agreed with that, I then began to ask, "is there anything I should look for that could indicate anything more serious?". But I did not get past the word "anything". She then interrupted me and told me "no, I will NOT order an x-ray for her because she doesn't need it, SOME parents just worry about things too much". Guess she thought I was going to ask for an xray. I was flabbergasted, as she said it SO rudely! If you care about your kid enough to ask questions, expect to be treated poorly. She clearly did not care how I felt. I still can't believe I was spoken to like that, I couldn't even muster a response to her after she said it.
