Dr. Joanne Seltzer, MD

unpleasant, rude and uncaring

I have been seeing Dr. Seltzer for two years about medical and career issues and she helped me in so many ways process and logically work through my issues. Most doctors just listen without offering concrete solutions about how to approach things from a different perspective, manage one's time, juggle tasks or find positive ways to combat stress but Dr. Seltzer does. She cares, is considerate, and a great listener, and she has helped me strategize many of these mental health issues so that I have better coping skills.

I have found her to be warm and helpful to me. I think the other review is quite harsh and unfair. She always calls me back and I can usually get an appointment in a day or two. I find her to be warm and supportive. I do not use her for psychotherapy, but the times I have discussed issues with her I have found her advice helpful.

Callous, uncaring, and incredible rude, please do not pursue this woman as your doctor. 1. Recommends an outdated and expensive workbook with insulting and incessant activities in it which I purchase on Amazon for $45.00 plus shipping to get it in time for appointment two. 2. Spends 45 minutes with me at the first appointment and ends the appointment with a comment that clearly indicates that she has not heard a word I just said. "Well wouldn't you just love attending function X since you are a student of XYZ." No, I'm not a student. I have a masters degree in an unrelated field to XYZ and my professional situation is the reason I am pursing a psychiatrist. Sigh. 3. Second appointment makes me wait for 45 minutes in her waiting room with the indicator light on. When she comes out and blames me for getting the time wrong, I politely respond that I would have never made the appointment time for the same time I start work every day Mon-Fri. She got the time wrong. No apology.… 4. During conversation about incorrect appointment times, I inform her that I don't have a prescription for the medication we discussed during appointment one. She claims she has no time to discuss this as she is "between appointments." 5. Despite not having time, she has plenty of time to inform me that my insurance company has shorted her $19. 45. Proceeds to retrieve printout for my records. She bills my insurance company $350.00 per appointment. For $350, I can get someone else to not listen to me, not prescribe me any medication, and stand me up for scheduled appointment times.
