Dr. Joe Van Kilpatrick

Warning, Be careful.

I highly recommend Dr. Kilpatrick. He is thorough, explains everything, is cordial, pleasant and professional. I have gone to him for years now and would trust no other physician in gastroenterology.

I have been sick for most of my 38 years of life. I have even been a patient at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Out of the 100's of doctors I have seen in my lifetime, I have never met such a horrible doctor. He might be good with procedures, but he is losing his hearing and doing nothing about it. Instead, he says "What now?" over and over again, without hearing more than half of what the patient is saying. Today he fired me as a patient because he CAN'T HEAR! So, he said we have a communication problem. The problem is the man is to full of himself to get a HEARING AID. It's near impossible to speak to the man. He needs help badly. This doctor should not be allowed to treat patients until he gets his health in order. He is rude and once he had me crying from his behavior he stated he can not communicate with me because I cry. Um, what? Yeah, stay away from him. I am sure if you read this and go to him any ways, this letter will come to mind in time. Good luck, but care for… yourself and pick another specialist.

He has performed three colonoscopies for me during a span of years. His present office staff is very pleasant.

I was having intense stomach pain & he did an endoscope on me. The day before the surgery, a nurse called me to confirm the appt. and to remind me not to eat, etc. after midnight. She also mentioned I needed to do a bunch of other stuff for the colonoscopy. I was not scheduled for that! She and I did not know if I was supposed to prep for this or not. Decided not to & turned out to just get the original endo. After the surgery when I was groggy and drugged up, the doc handed me a post-it (!) with my diagnosis on it! Amazing! Never imagined anything like that! Never went back to see him. Several times I have had other doctor's ask for copies of my endo & no one has ever gotten any records, etc. from him. I wouldn't refer him to anyone. Highly unprofessional.

I went with my daughter to her appointment and was appalled at how we were treated. The doctor was not only extremely rude to us, he treated the poor girl at the front desk with such a lack of respect. He reprimanded her in front of all of us sitting in the tiniest waiting room I have ever seen. I can't imagine who wrote good reviews on this doctor....maybe his family members. I have several family members who are in the medical profession and they were in disbelief after I shared with them our experience here. I realize that Colorado Springs is in very short supply of specialists in this area but really, don't waste your time going to this backwards, strange physician. I have been taking four kids to doctors for 25 years and have never experienced someone as insensitive and condescending as this man. It is embarrassing enough to have these intestinal problems but the office is so small and the walls are so thin, everyone can hear everyone else's business. This was the most… unprofessional doctor's office I have ever visited.

I have ulcerative colitis and was not happy with treatment plan with previous doctor. I met with Kilpatrick and explained my situation. I also told him that I was in serious pain and bleeding and that my previous doctor would not return my calls. He told me to leave at once because he doesn't do second opinions and he would not take on a patient who had a previous relationship with another doctor. He was extremely rude and unwilling to even examine me or refer me to anyone. He told me to just go to the ER.Also, this office does not have a computer and they only take cash or checks. It is an extremely unprofessional office where all conversations in the rooms can be heard by those in waiting area. The "file room" was dusty and contained a horse saddle thrown on the middle of the table. After speaking with others, it sounds like others have also left due to how rude and unprofessional Kilpatrick is.

I have been seeing Dr. Kilpatrick as a part of a Tricare referral for over three years. He has always been polite and thorough in his discussions with me before, during, and after any procedures. His professionalism makes it easy to provide a high recommendation for him.

Dr Kilpatrick was very professional and friendly during the visit. I had taken my son to see the doctor about his stomach pain. We were taken very seriously. Follow up testing was scheduled quickly and the result were given to me immediately. I would recommend Dr Kilpatrick to anyone needing a GI physician.

I go every year for a screening of my esophagus. Procedure goes well, and consultation is done after the biopsy results come back. I recommend Dr. K.Wait time varies: once it was an hour, and he apologized. He might have a patient that needs to be told about cancer, so I don't worry too much about the schedule.
