Dr. Joel Charles Bolen, MD

This is a SRO, not HMO. This is a Staff Ran Office! The staff runs this practice and Dr. Bolen condones the mistreatment of patients by the staff. I hope if any patient needs a referral, you have better luck than the person that I know. How can staff call the police on a elderly patient if Dr. Bolen specifically told the patient to come to his office. What harm can a senior citizen do? Why would Dr. Bolen allow HIS staff to call the POLICE on HIS patient? The female that calls herself the Office Manager stated it was the NORM for her to call the POLICE on patients. This patient uses a walker so imminent danger was not an issue. The POLICE really have more important issues to deal with...a elderly patient? Really? Bye Felicia!

I had a reaction to a new medication he prescribed. I left 3 messages with the same nurse, explaining my problem, but he never returned my phone call.

Dr. Bolen is good, but his office staff is awful, and not worth the problems you'll encounter. He wrote me a prescription for a medication that turned out not to be covered by Blue Cross. I called and left three messages with a receptionist named Ashley. He never returned my call, and I ended up finding another doctor.

Great bedside manner, always takes the time to listen to any concerns or issues we are having with our mother and or grandmother's health. A great geriatrician!

He is incompetent and negligent!

I had a question about billing with MEDICARE which was immediately handled in a most professional manner by Lynn.

Dr. Bolen is a wonderful, compassionate , knowledgeable physician. The wait time is the office is overlong, but he spends time with each patient.

Does not have a good bedside manner with patient or family

Great doctor; caring, personable, and very knowledgeable. Similar positive things can be said for the physician assistant. The nurse who does the initial screening, however, is mechanical,uninvolved and detached to the point of rudeness. The office personnel, in general, are not only unfriendly, but they appear inept and unprofessional, as well. Finally, there are some graphics posted in some parts of the office that are inappropriate and downright tacky. A good office manager with a vision of courteous service in a professional setting could really make a big difference.

LISTENS to the patient; adds humor appropriately but takes the problem seriously; doesn't easily prescribe medications but tries to determine the cause; is not intimidated by other doctors & will refer the patient to a specialist if he cannot help the patient; he keeps very detailed notes and evaluates every visit.
