Dr. Joel Paul Jacobson, MD

Dr. Jacobson and his staff conduct themselves in a way that gives the impression they do not care about their patients. Their primary motivation appears to be reducing their workload, cutting costs for insurance, and generating revenue for the practice. Some examples: (1) A biopsy will not be ordered unless a patient is on dying bed - the doctor does not care to prevent the worst outcome; he cares to work less and save money for insurance. (2) When it comes to imaging, a CAT scan is the preferred choice, even when it is very harmful due to strong ionizing radiation, not medically necessary and could easily be replaced by a less harmful MRI. Stanford requires imaging for certain cases and accepts MRI results, but Dr. Jacobson opts for CAT scans because they are available in-house, sparing him the effort of determining which type of MRI to order or contacting Stanford for clarification. (3) Referrals, when issued, cannot be used by the patient because Dr. Jacobson fails to follow the… proper steps to ensure they are accepted. (4) If medication is prescribed, patients frequently have to call the front desk repeatedly to remind them to fax the prescription to the pharmacy. (5) doctor will not notice a large polyp due to his poor vision or his lack of care. (6) Dr. Jackobson does not dialogue with patients - it is his way or highway. A review of patient feedback reveals a consistent theme: concerns are dismissed or ridiculed, and the bedside manner is unprofessional and uncaring; front desk is disorganized, patients are misdiagnosed, doctor will not have patient's best interest in mind when coming up with treatment plan.

I have been a patient of Dr. Jacobsen for a number of years. My primary care physician recommended him about five years ago, and I have never been disappointed. Dr. Jacobsen meets my expectations of excellent care, a sense of calm reassurance, attentive listening skills, and instant recall of personal information (probably because of attention to detail when taking notes). Highly recommend without qualification or hesitation.

Had to pay out of my own pocket before the insurance got straightened out. Well it's been almost 29 months and I have yet to be paid back by these people. They want their money as soon as you walk in the door but just try to get your back. Yeah right!!!!

Competent Doctor. No knowledge of surgery. Staff leaves room for better communication with patient. If you do not use CHOMP labs, you are on your own to get lab requests and follow-up! Physician's lack of interest in patient's comfort during needle biopsy was discomforting.l
