Dr. Tepper studies combinations of radiation therapy, chemotherapy and surgery for the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.
Gastrointestinal cancers include tumors of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, colon and rectum, and together represent the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. These studies span basic research in
cells to clinical trials in patients.
He also participates in UNC clinical protocols evaluating new treatments for cancer metastases to the liver, and improved methods of shaping radiation beams to tumors
in order to better avoid damage to normal tissues.
Dr. Tepper was the recipient of the 2008 Gold Medal from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). The Gold Medal, ASTRO’s highest honor, is bestowed on revered Society members who have made outstanding
