Dr. John J Bottros, MD

Dr. Jon Bottros was inspired to pursue a career in medicine from an early age, growing up in a family of physicians where the profession was regarded as a lifelong commitment. His interest in the biomechanics of the human body, with a particular focus on joint function and movement, led him to obtain his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University.

He completed his surgical residency at the esteemed Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he undertook advanced orthopedic training. During residency, Dr. Bottros had the opportunity to concentrate on adult reconstructive surgery, participating in a dedicated research year focused on joint surgery and the mechanics of the hip. His research helped contribute valuable knowledge to the field of orthopedics, potentially influencing future clinical practices in the management of hip conditions.

To further refine his expertise, Dr. Bottros completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery at Rush …University Medical Center. This fellowship, recognized as the highest level of training available to orthopedic surgeons, provided him with the unique opportunity to develop advanced surgical skills and techniques under the mentorship of leading practitioners in the field.

Throughout his career, Dr. Bottros has received recognition for his commitment to orthopedic research and education. He has been invited to present at national and international conferences, sharing his insights and findings with peers, selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and recognized as a Newsweek American’s Leading Doctor in knee surgery. Additionally, he has authored numerous publications in respected medical journals, further establishing his reputation as a thought leader in adult reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Bottros currently practices at OrthoIllinois, where he specializes in adult reconstructive surgery of the knee and hip. His particular interests include complex primary and revision total joint replacement, rapid recovery protocols, and perioperative pain management. He is skilled in robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery and has performed a significant number of outpatient total joint procedures, enabling patients to undergo hip or knee replacement and recover in the comfort of their own homes the same day.

Dr. Bottros remains actively involved in continuing education and ongoing orthopedic research. He is dedicated to staying at the forefront of advancements within his specialty, ensuring his patients benefit from the latest techniques and best practices.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Bottros enjoys traveling abroad, scuba diving, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, CrossFit, playing soccer, and participating in sprint triathlons.
