Dr. John Buhac, MD

When my brother, who has 4th stage lung cancer, was seen by Dr. Buhac it was due to a problem swallowing food and fluids. He was losing significant weight. Dr. Buhac scheduled testing that would determine if the problem was due to his cancer or some other reason. Based on the results he said there were some conditions that could be treated but if it were due to the cancer he would need a feeding tube. His nurse called us with the results (he was away on vacation) and said it was not due to the cancer and that they could put in a feeding tube! No other recommeded treatment? we asked. Upon our insistence they said they would prescribe medication. Due to miscommunication between his office and his assisted living facility it took 5 more days before he statred the medication and the doctor never asked him to come in for a follow up!! We found another doctor who explained options more fully and is working with us on other treatment before resorting to a feeding tube. We will never use Dr.… Buhac's practice again.

Experience was horrible and I do not recommend. Sent me a letter after an upper endoscopy saying everything is good and to check back in a year. Meanwhile I checked in the ER because my stomach was in so much pain. ER doctors recommended finding a new GI and told me there were a lot of other test he could have done. They also informed me I had a fatty liver that my GI should have diagnosed and addressed.

Buhac threw a fit outside exam room when he learned I was there looking for a second opinion. Diagnosed my pain as diverticulitis without a physical exam. A year later I saw his nurse who correctly diagnosed my condition as a double hernia.

I have had three visits so far. While I did not find him effusive, he was courteous, professional and receptive to my thoughts regarding diagnosis and treatment. That's pretty much what I'm looking for in a non-primary physician

Does not have the greatest bed side manner. Poor listening skills. I would not recommend this doctor. Also, trying to switch doctors within the group is impossible. They don't allow it. You have to go to another group.
